Re: Are HD motors noisy or am I just used to SSD's ?

What about the Scythe Himuro. Probably not as quiet but looks like the rubber things to mount it will decouple it from the chassis. Definitely cheaper. http://www.quietpc.com/himuro I've tried it, it actually amplifies the hard drive noise... both vibrations and airborne noise. Kind of funny, in a ...

Re: Silent Rackmount PC Build

I've kept that option in mind, however with any luck, it shouldn't be needed. hard drives will probably be powered down 90% of the time! You'll probably be right too, as the mesh behind the hard drives looks to be a large and easy way for air to exit the back of the chassis. You'll likely get a goo...

Looks awesome! 8)

I gather there's no practical way of using a full height graphics card with a riser? Doesn't look to be enough space since you need to allow room for the power supply.

Re: Are HD motors noisy or am I just used to SSD's ?

Thinking of getting something like this http://quietpc.co.uk/smartdrive-classic Its not seek noise that annoys me, its the motor noise. My pc sounds so quiet to me when I'm just browsing the web, that the noise of the HD motor ruins it for me. Hoping an internal enclosure will muffle this noise som...

Do it, get a licence/patent etc. for it, and then sell it to the motherboard manufacturers.

Re: replacement fan for HP G60T-600

Use an anti-static brush to effectively get rid of the caked on dust from both heatsink and fan. Worked great for cleaning my Dell XPS M1330. I just shoved the bristles into the heatsink, gave it a jiggle, and it came out looking like new. :) Compressed air will only remove loose material.

Re: [SOLVED] Thermalright HR-02 Macho

I think you'll be fine. If you think it's too tight, then just wedge something non-conductive between the HR-02 and the PCI-e card to ensure they don't touch. :) Oh, and I forgot to mention another motherboard that's definitely compatible with the HR-02 - the Asus P8H67-M EVO. Again, about 2mm to sp...

Re: [SOLVED] Thermalright HR-02 Macho

I also assume the HR-02 will block the first expansion slot when mounted vertically. Is this a correct assumption? My HR-02 (original version) never blocked the top expansion slot on any of these motherboards, though it was a tight fit (about 2mm to spare): * Asus P8Z68-V * Asus P8Z77-I Deluxe (~20...

Re: Anything better than FT02?

All cases are inherently silent, it's what you put into them that make the noise. Sound dampening has limited usefulness compared to using silent components in the first place. Hear hear. First ensure that the components are chosen carefully. Then, as a final and optional step to silencing the PC, ...

Look for a "Zalman Fanmate" or any similar controller. You could also use a simple resistor cable or 12v to 7v/5v adapter cable. But you wouldn't have the flexibility of the Fanmate.

Re: cooler for old ATI X800 XL

That card only has two mounting holes for the cooler, so I'd go with one of these options: 1) Take off the stock fan and plastic shroud, and attach an ~80mm fan to the heatsink 2) Use a heatsink of your choice, and zip-tie it to the card using the two mounting holes I'd only go with the second optio...

Re: Slim Black HTPC V8.0

I would put black paint on the front of the optical drive too. Also, +1 vote for the tray loader, it just looks neater to me than having an ugly slit in the middle of the optical drive. Bonus points if you can achieve a faux brushed aluminium look with the paint. Surely doable if you use shiny black...

Re: scythe kozuti question

I'd consider attaching a slim 100mm fan to the top of the Scythe Kozuti. It would still be under 55mm high, but have a little more cooling power than just the stock 80mm fan.

But even if you couldn't or didn't want to do that, you could undervolt the CPU to lower the temps a little under load. :)

Lian Li have been making cases for years that are arranged like this. I also have the Silverstone SG03 which is arranged like this. Check out my old P182 rig for some ideas. :) In particular: Using cable ties to support the GPU (2x cable ties, and the metal hook on the roof of the P18x cases) Using corriboard or several layers of cardboard to block the top fan vent, with black texta or tape for aesthetics :) I agree with you cut...
