Atom's responsiveness

Hi! I was wondering how does an Intel Atom compare in terms of responsiveness to other computers I've owned. I have never used any Atom based system, but in my life I've used the following computers: Amiga 600 :D Celeron 366@466 + 64MB RAM Duron 1Ghz + 256MB RAM Celeron 2Ghz + 640MB RAM (old Dell In...

This is one neat build, one question though: why did you choose to place your HDD on a piece of foam, rather than use the suspension system?

I know this isn't helpful in your case, but I use two Nexus RealSilent fans in the front of my Solo. They're wired in parallel, so they're pulling 6V each. They're so quiet I have to put my ear right next to them to hear some air turbulence. I also use the soft silicone plugs they shipped with. Two ...

Hi Leggie, I would check the possibility of ducting the Ninja to the exhaust case fan (you do have one, don't you?). A shroud of some kind should tunnel air throught the Ninja's fins and cool it down considerably. Another thing to consider is the thickness of the thermal paste. Maybe it's too thin o...

Those performance figures are impressive, if true. I hope the price will drop to enthusiast levels in the next few years. One thing I don't understand though... Why does it need an additional molex power connector? I thought that PCIe slot could supply up to 75W, which should be more than enough for...

This is a very powerful processor, which will probably just sit idling in your case. You could probably save some coin here, as this is intended to be an office machine. Other thoughts: - P183 is a very large case. You could go mATX here, so Antec NSK3480 would suffice (some other mobo needed though...

no air filters in the front of the case?? a 92mm fan? pass. I wouldn't be this hasty to dismiss the case. It has been designed with bottom-top airflow, and the fan in the bottom is filtered. And as far as the 92mm fans are concerned - what's wrong with them? 92mm Nexus or Fander are inaudible, so n...

I'm astonished to find that Zalman might be the new Antec. I sincerely think that those cases are our next silent computing champs. They're also stylish, unlike the latest Antec eye-sores. You confirm to me that to have a quiet system, you must define a configuration that heats the least? That would help of course. The only significant source of heat in your case is the i7 processor. Mount a top-notch aftermarket heatsink to it, duct it to the exhaust fan in the back and you're good ...

Do you think that Antec Solo is quieter than the Antec P183 ?? This is a tricky question :) A case does not produce any sounds. It is as loud as the components inside. If you fit the same parts in both cases, I would say Solo will be quieter - it is better at reducing the HDD vibrations and doesn't...

Antec Solo has all panels solid and thick. This muffles the sound from the inside and is the first and foremost prerequisite for silent computing. It also features a stock HDD suspension, a very clean and convenient solution. However, it will not muffle loud components so make sure you pick only the...

I use the 1TB version and I'm very pleased with it. It is suspended in Antec Solo's stock suspension and thus inaudible from the outside (even seeks, not to mention idle). I like it when people recycle :) Chieftec cases are built to last, it's a pity they have so many holes in side panels. You can create a separate chamber in your Chieftec. I hope it never gets to 1TB per platter. Why? Because I'd rather see 1TB SSDs for the price of current HDDs in 2011 :)

Every conventional HDD is noisier than the quietest 3,5" drive :) It doesn't mean 1TB is noisy. I can't hear my suspended sample from within Antec Solo.
