well, see if it's necessary to lap it or not. From what I've seen, Zalman waterblocks generally are pretty flat--you can probably use it as a shaving mirror :D If it's already quite flat, then lapping won't do much. Like Ralf Hutter said, unless you "have a pretty f**ked up heatsink surface", you wo...

what are the heatsink dimensions? Since it's using a 50mm fan, I would think that it's a pretty small heatsink. If that's the case, then it's pretty hard to get the same cooling performance with a larger fan since they perform better if they have more heatsink surface to blow on. That's just what I ...

I recently got a NoiseTaker 375. No whine, and almost too quiet.

thanks for the suggestion. I got the Noisetaker, and man--it's almost...too quiet? :D

To me, it seems like the fans are spinning too slow, even at load. My motherboard detects the fan spinning at around 1400 to 1500 RPM. Are these normal?

Zalman ZM300A-APF or Enermax Noisetaker 370W non-pfc?

Both the Zalman (300w) and Enermax (370W) power supplies are at the same price, but the enermax lacks pfc. In terms of efficiency and/or noise, which one should I purchase?

Radeon fan replacement?

I have an ATI Radeon 64DDR VIVO (yeah, the original radeon) with active cooling. The fan is dying out with an annoying wail of death. I thought of removing the entire HSF unit and slapping on an old pentium heatsink for passive cooling. Would this be adequate enough for proper cooling?

yeah, how did you do that? does it require a lot of precise soldering or an extra circuit board?

Duron 1300 + Asus A7V8X-X undervolting

My friend's computer is running quite hot, and thus unbearably loud. I read the undervolting article and decided to try it myself. I came upon a brick wall when it came to voltage changing. Default voltage for a duron (morgan) 1300 is 1.75v, and when i tried to change the voltage it only showed opti...

actually, I meant to say that the psu might have killed 2 motherboards, but they were pretty old already.

Putting that aside, I think ill be having fun ripping apart the power supply now.

FLUENCE electronics was found in November, 2003 in Shenzhen. And its main product is CPU cooler & accessories. In the past two decades, we hardly found any changes in this field, either the appearance or performance. That's not the trend of cause, and there must be a breakthrough. Here we are---the...

dead/dangerous psu? psu thermistor?

My AOpen ATX-300GT seems to make some whining noise after I turn it off, and the pitch gradually goes lower. Then the sound completely stops and then I get a voltage feedback from the 12V and 5V lines of about 0.5V (I tested that). Does that mean that the psu is dangerous to use/dying? I already kil...

Wow...they really do look pretty identical, but slightly smaller. I kinda like the clip design for socket A, but im not sure about the stability of that thing.

I wonder how these coolers perform..

the extra hot nature of the prescott is do to the overabondunce of garbage they put on the core. Might be true to some degree, but maybe it's because of the way they designed the shrunk core, using "Strained Silicon". They strain the atoms to create more space between them to let electrons travel f...

I tried easing it out first, but it wasn't moving at all. Then i started to pull with a bit more strength. I guess I'm out of luck, and I think that plastic strap holds the coil in place (seeing that other coils have it too), so i can't cut that off. Oh well. It was interesting to read that article,...

Enermax PSU Mod help

After I read the enermax psu silencing article, I decided to give it a shot on my psu. Instead of seeing the thermistor hot-glued to the coil, mine was stuck inside the middle hole of the coil, wedged in and secured by the flat plastic "string?" that is tied around the coil. I tried pulling it out, ...
