If you are willing to use a picoPSU - consider the Lian Li Q07. Mount a single low speed fan on the rear side of the tower heatsink and it will act as an exhaust.

Re: Case Rec.| mAtx with support for 5x HD's and 1 Optical

How about the Fractal Design Define Mini ? Case size (WxHxD) is 210x395x490mm, so it is probably a bit bigger than you want in depth, but otherwise it seems to tick all required boxes - 6 x HDD, 2 x ODD, 2 x front 120mm fans. Not sure how much it is in USD, but it looks to be a quality case that mig...

Yate Loon make a 140mm fan as well - speed is 1,000rpm at 12V from memory.

I haven't used this fan so I can't comment on its noise characteristics.

Very nice and clean build!

You might want to try using some tin snips to cut out the front fan grills - this could help to eliminate the whooshing sound.

I must've overlooked this one! It may be nearly perfect for my needs : ) Thanks a lot , now off to find someone who actually used this case (and a vendor in Poland...). How about the Apex MI-008 (SPCR review here)?

It seems like there would be room to install 2 x 3.5" HDDs - one down the side as shown on page 4 of the review and one under the ODD bay (or suspend one in the ODD bay if you are not using a DVD/bluray drive).

I did something similar to what you want here . Basically, with a bit of soldering and a switch of some sort, you should be able to interpose a switch in the middle of a 4 pin molex extension so that the current is turned off when the switch is thrown one way but flows through to boot up the hdd whe...

I don't know if you can find this product where you live (no location in your profile so I can't help further), but DEMCi makes a filter kit for some of the HAF range:

Might be worth looking into as an alternative to a new case.

Another option would be a picoPSU and a large tower heatsink, which will fit in the space that the ATX PSU would have occupied. See the system in my signature for an example.

Since you haven't got a discrete graphics card, a 150W picoPSU would be more than enough headroom.

The Apex MI-008 reviewed by SPCR might be another option. (I think this brand is sold as Aywun in other parts of the world - at least it seems to be here in Australia). For a very low noise system, the Q07/Q11 + picoPSU combo with a large tower heatsink would be hard to beat though. I really like my...

Silver Power Blue Lightning SP 600 A2C 600W You might find that this PSU is pretty loud after you get rid of the rest of the main noise offenders. I found a review at Anandtech that suggests that the fan speed at idle is 1,250rpm, which I personally would find quite loud (even though the review sug...

CASE/ ANTEC FUSION REMOTE BLACK. From memory, this case comes with some sort of display in one of the DVD bays, which is hooked up to the case's power supply. I'm not sure if this display alone would account for the extra 20w or so though. Just a thought anyway. You could try unplugging the display...

A passive graphics card (even a low power one) would make things tricky in a small case, or in any case really, depending on how powerful you want it. I could run my Q07-based system entirely without a fan (see my signature) but I would see a significant increase in temperatures at full load (10c fr...

The motherboard you have linked to is an ATX motherboard, while the GD-05 case only accepts microATX (or smaller) motherboards, so you will need to find a new smaller motherboard. Try the Gigabyte 880GMA-UD2H instead. If you only use your PC for watching movies, internet and occaisional light gaming...

If you don't mind the sideways optical drive mount, how about the Lian Li X-500FX ? SPCR's review of the Coolermaster Fanless TC-100 mini-ITX case , which has a 35W system TDP rating, would suggest that your heatpipe-based cooling plan is a little unrealistic for your proposed sytem. This also seems to be an issue for HFX cases . As an alternative, have a look at the Lian Li Q07 or...

Well, I attempted to assemble the system today and there's one issue. The CPU heatsink is too tall for the case by between 5-10 millimeters. With the heatsink mounted, the PSU can not be installed. Do you mean (a) the heatsink and the stock fan installed; or (b) the heatsink without the stock fan i...

Also, I couldn't tell from your picture but have you blocked off the side panel fan vents in any way?

Another alternative would be to get an Antec NSK3480 and swap the included Earthwatts PSU to a fanless Seasonic X-Series PSU. There are vents in the top of the 3480 that will allow a fanless PSU to vent hot air. Swap the rear Antec fan for a Nexus Real Silent or Scythe Slipstream, S-Flex or Gentle T...

I don't know much about Enermax fans, they seem to be a flashy fan of choice for overclockers and modders though. In terms of other alternatives, from what other users have posted here, Yate Loon make a fairly quiet 140mm fan. It's a sleeve bearing fan though, so possibly inappropriate for a horizon...
