Which part of this PC is dead?
I am diagnosing a friends PC issue. So far, the only thing i can determine is that there is no video signal. It is an e-Machine with onboard video: nVidia GeForce 6100 GPU I placed a PCI (not PCIe) video card in an available slot, still no video. So now I am inclined to think that the motherboard ha...

This Java beating makes me cry :D Ever played Far Cry? Everything apart from the core engine of this game is Java-based. In the beginning, Java's fame for being a resource hog may have been partly correct. But these days are over now. What you get with Java is true platform independence, nothing mo...

Re: What does more memory actually do?
I am not a big gamer, I do occasionally play games for a couple of hours every few months when the mood strikes.. Mostly I am using the pc for work and watching movies.. I do like using lots of 3D desktop effects but they aren't that intensive.. (BTW I use Linux on my desktop).. I don't know for su...

Connecting printer to home network - will this work?
I have a home network using a wireless Linksys router. If I purchase a wireless USB adapter and plug it into the USB port of my printer, can that effectively make the printer available to the PCs that are connected to the network?

Re: What does more memory actually do?
Unless you game at high resolutions and/or use advanced video settings like anti-aliasing, then the extra memory would improve nothing for the uses you are describing. Stick with the lesser card.WipeOut wrote: So what, if anything, would 512MB of memory do for me over 256MB?

arctic cooling freezer pro 7: is there a buzzing fan issue?
I'm asking because all of a sudden the fan on mine is buzzing loudly. I have it cooling an e6750 in a DS3R motherboard.

Thank you soldonz and...... Welcome to SPCR!!! [/color] (just a little thing we do for new members) Is there a need to install RivaTuner since the overrider is a stand-alone application? Just wondering as I do understand that I will have to download the package as a whole, but I really don't intend ...

soldonz , that's great information. I will have to give that a try. Truth is that I like using vsync anyway, but I wasn't sure if it could b turned on in DX. Also, similar to your experience, the ATI Tool 3D cube causes the whining. It's actually strange how the "whine" can be instantly turned on a...

Is it possible that I'm hearing "coil wine" on a new video card? My PC emits a high-pitched tone every time I start playing Crysis. It didn't start happening until I bought the 8800GT. And if it is coil whine from my video card, are there literally "coils" on the card where I can apply some of these...

I went into OfficeMax and tested this thing out today. Holy Crap, this thing is comfortable! $150 seemed like a steal. I am debating this heavily at the moment. My dilemma is that I have a good leather chair with thick padding that is resilient to wear (according to the manufacturer), and it is on c...

Best Buy recently had it for $237.99. Reference thread here . For those willing to deal with a rebate, NCIXUS currently has the...

My recommendation is based on a price-to-performance ratio of the GT. I have not owned the G92-based GTS, but I do own the GT. There simply isn't a better buy out there right now for an nvidia card. The GTS is not worth the extra $100 dollars. Said another way, the performance of these two cards wil...

First off I would like to thank colin2 for the word "geekery". It has been added to my vocabulary. Secondly, Bluefront apparently hasn't received the fruitcake yet. (There is an old joke that there exists only one fruitcake in the world that just keeps getting passed from one person to the next as a...

Can someone tell me if ANY form of RAID will increase desktop PC performance? Or if maybe it depends on the application(s), and if so, what are they? I set up a fake RAID using ICH9R with two 160GB Seagates for my latest C2D build. Not sure if it performs any better than my non-RAID single 250GB Sea...
