Which part of this PC is dead?

I am diagnosing a friends PC issue. So far, the only thing i can determine is that there is no video signal. It is an e-Machine with onboard video: nVidia GeForce 6100 GPU I placed a PCI (not PCIe) video card in an available slot, still no video. So now I am inclined to think that the motherboard ha...

Sorry, but I couldn't get past mikrosmooth. Whatever else the OP typed is just as ludicrous, I'm sure.

Thank you for reminding me that though I am not among the educated elite, I have enough sense to know when i am being conned.

This Java beating makes me cry :D Ever played Far Cry? Everything apart from the core engine of this game is Java-based. In the beginning, Java's fame for being a resource hog may have been partly correct. But these days are over now. What you get with Java is true platform independence, nothing mo...

I am not a big gamer, I do occasionally play games for a couple of hours every few months when the mood strikes.. Mostly I am using the pc for work and watching movies.. I do like using lots of 3D desktop effects but they aren't that intensive.. (BTW I use Linux on my desktop).. I don't know for su...

Connecting printer to home network - will this work?

I have a home network using a wireless Linksys router. If I purchase a wireless USB adapter and plug it into the USB port of my printer, can that effectively make the printer available to the PCs that are connected to the network?

Unless you game at high resolutions and/or use advanced video settings like anti-aliasing, then the extra memory would improve nothing for the uses you are describing. Stick with the lesser card.

Nobody knows? I was thinking I might have read here or elsewhere that a percentage of users were reporting a fan that goes bad. Mine certainly has. I've never heard such a sound coming from a fan.

arctic cooling freezer pro 7: is there a buzzing fan issue?

I'm asking because all of a sudden the fan on mine is buzzing loudly. I have it cooling an e6750 in a DS3R motherboard.

soldonz , that's great information. I will have to give that a try. Truth is that I like using vsync anyway, but I wasn't sure if it could b turned on in DX. Also, similar to your experience, the ATI Tool 3D cube causes the whining. It's actually strange how the "whine" can be instantly turned on a...

I just posted about this in another thread:

Every time I fire up the game Crysis Demo, my PC emits a high pitch. It happened after I installed a new 8800GT, so i believe it is the video card rather than some other component.

Is it possible that I'm hearing "coil wine" on a new video card? My PC emits a high-pitched tone every time I start playing Crysis. It didn't start happening until I bought the 8800GT. And if it is coil whine from my video card, are there literally "coils" on the card where I can apply some of these...

My recommendation is based on a price-to-performance ratio of the GT. I have not owned the G92-based GTS, but I do own the GT. There simply isn't a better buy out there right now for an nvidia card. The GTS is not worth the extra $100 dollars. Said another way, the performance of these two cards wil...
