Though the AMD (presumably X2 3800+) is €80 more, it's more than €80-worth faster, especially in games. If your budget isn't that flexible, then I'd pick a single core Athlon 64 over the Pentium D - most games still don't use dual cores effectively anyway. And the Athlon 64 would run a lot cool...

Wow, Devon you take no prisoners. Enermax got bitchslapped in this review. Most other sites would balance it by talking about how great the gold coloured fan grills are or something. ;) Nice review btw. Enermax has been very far off the price/performance curve in PSUs and cases for a while.

Linux support for video decoding is a bit tricky to set up and incomplete. I don't believe most of purevideo's features are available using xvmc. ATI recently started supporting AVIVO under linux, but I have no indication as to what features are supported. Google Avivo Linux and Purevideo linux for ...

Looking at the P-D price drops is anyone tempted to get a P-D 915 or 925 in mid July instead? They are supposed to drop down all the way below $150. Looks like it might make a good server box while you wait for Conroe MB/Chipsets etc to mature into early next year. Maybe its better to get a $200 con...

I had a 2x866 P3 fileserver with 2x200, 1x320 and 1x250 GB HDDs in a closet in an old house. The closet door didnt shut properly :D and left a 2" gap at the most open point. The size of the door was a normal interior door size. The closet was 2'x3'x7' (dxwxh). Everything ran fine. If you leave a sma...

Hothardware have a review which shows nForce 590 SLI consuming ~40W more than CrossFire Xpress 3200. It’s hard to know if any of the difference is down to VRM efficiency differences between the two motherboards, but that’s still a hell of a big difference. You know I noticed that and thought th...

The main thing I want to note though, basically every power comparison so far has compared the Nforce 590 SLI against ATI's chipsets. It's seems pretty apparent that their 2 chip architecture is very power inefficient not to mention it seems likely the voltages are higher for the built-in overclock...

Sure this isnt a typo? The much vaunted transition seems to have stalled in a big way I thought. But then again I havent looked at Dell or HP/Q machines lately.

Not bad for a $25 HSF tho.

*sigh* Nforce 5 series is interesting, but it runs hotter than the ATI chipset. Wonder if the new to nforce5 features work stably. The chips are boring other than the low power ones. Intel's choice to leave the MC off chip now seems well advised. All this hoopla about merely changing the memory cont...

This is a very nice setup with a pleasing overall shape. I do have a couple of criticisms/concerns. 1. Why not move the CD/PSU cables to the back of the case (would require relocating HDD/psu etc). The "front" of your case looks unsightly. 2. Figure out a way to neatly route cables. If you've gone t...

Your upgrade choices are good. I would upgrade the video card cooling, suspend drives, PSU, and finally/optionally case in that order. Couple of questions : Why are you interested in a 32 lane PCIe board when less will suffice? Why dont you run without a video card altogether? That card is a dog, but still much better than an X1300. Unless all you're buying it for is light gaming (low res) and video playback.

Also the passive cards are too expensive. Just buy a cheap card, replace the cooler. If you need it for warranty, put the old cooler back and ship it to em.
