Re: help: inexpensive cooler for Ivy Bridge 3570K

Am I likely to run into any clearance issues? Height-wise, I think I'm okay. The Temjin also has a neat CPU Cooler support which should alleviate some of the weight concerns. My primary worry is the GPU. That is the problem with Scythe, you just never know. Thermalright, Noctua and to some extent P...

Promlimatech just makes good solid heat sinks. One disappointment is that while they maintain compatibility charts... they are not as complete and thorough as those of Noctua and Thermalright. Noctua makes good product as well. I like them because of their policy of providing free mounting kits to ...

Re: Advice on PC build

Gigabyte saying the cooler is compatible is just one part of the equation...it's also a matter of the socket placement on the mobo in relation to everything else in this small case. Yes that is correct, they do not show compatibility with cases, just with motherboards. Though they do a remarkable j...

Re: Advice on PC build

It may not fit...depending on Gigabyte's CPU placement as compared to the Asus mobo in the Temjin review here . The D14 is 130mm deep without the fan. The U12P is 95mm. There was only 26mm clearance between the HDD and the cooler in SPCR's review. The NH-U12P SE gave decent temps with a similar TDP...

Re: Low energy, silent home office PC

Using a fan isn't necessary, but it is well advised. The initial slight wiff of air from even a 500 rpm fan makes a big difference. And you won't ever hear it unless you live in an anechoic chamber... and maybe not even then. The case you have selected has almost no ventilation. That coupled with no...

Re: Low energy, silent home office PC

The Asus C60M1-I is definitely an interesting board. Though I suspect it isn't the most engery efficient as it uses an Integrated ATI Radeon HD 6290 GPU. Most computers spend the vast majority of their time at idle. At idle, all the modern Intel CPUs, including even the 4 core ones idle at about 4 w...

Get the H60. This will explain why:

The pump will make some noise. Not much you can do about that. If the fan makes too much noise you try try swapping in a Scythe Gentle Typhoon fan.

Thanks for the advice, I'll be sure to give those fan a go. The 1150rpm fans seem to be scarce, would the 1450rpm ones suffice if I dial it back down? Are the scythe fans quieter than the noctua ones? The 1450 RPM model is worth trying as well. You can play with downvolting it. From what I hear, so...

The 100m fan fitted to the Shuriken has two sets of fixing holes - one for 100mm and one for 92mm - and the supplied fan clips actually use the 92mm holes. So replacing the stock unit with a 92mm fan is a straightforward operation with this cooler. I put a 25x100mm fan on my Shurekin. In order to d...

scythe shuriken 2 rev b is a perfect fit as it is 71 mm tall w/ regular sized 120mm fan according to spcr That is a bit on the tight side. Given that you have 90mm of space, and you are overclocking a i5 3570k. You do not have a lot of good choices. The Noctua NH-L12 will fit with just an underfan....
