I add my 2 quiet cents. If the card has a cooling system with the fan - it can't be silent. If someone can't hear the fan, that only means he has more other ambient noise. My question for users, that modded 4670 with passive HS is, if there are any other areas on the card that need cooling (apart th...

For quiet system you must not have power hungry components. So I use: - 790FX MB + X2 BE-2400 CPU + 2GB RAM - 2600 XT VGA - 2x 2,5" HDDs - 320 GB each - Etasis fanless 300W PSU Yes, my HDD setup is insane! :) :) :) This setup is one year old. 2600XT will be replaced with 4670 soon, as it has similar...

Finally there may be hope for a new card with low power consumption in idle/2D mode! I'd ask users who own 4670 cards to write how much the card underclocks in 2D mode. If they can measure power consumption, would these figures be welcome. I have 2600XT and I lowered idle power draw for about 10W wi...

Yes, we should wait a while. I didn't find review with Athlons X2 BE. The first reviews have Phenoms (and overclocked Phenoms) and these are not energy efficiant jet.

I have my fingers crossed. :)

I was thinking of Sapphire HD3850, but as initial reviews say it has 70-90W max power consomption. I didn't see how much idle would be.

According to xbitlabs the values for 2600 XT are: 21W idle /49W load.

Is 790FX chipset a solid base for a quiet PC?

Hi, I want to update my Athlon XP / Radeon 9700 PC with something stronger and more energy efficinet. I'll keep my Etasis PSU, Plextor IDE DVD-R, PCI TV card, PCI USR modem, Scythe QD, etc. New motherboard should have IEEE, PS2 ports, COM port... I'm thinking of buying an 790FX based MB. Components:...

Has anyone GA-MA790FX-DS5 motherboard?

Could this board be a solid base for building a quiet PC?
If it's true that AMD 790FX consumes 10W and it would be used with BE-2400 - then maybe yes.

What do you think?

I have a question for all un-happy Seagate users - what type of motor did you have:
1) http://www.engit.com.au/Silent.jpg
or
2) http://www.engit.com.au/Not-Silent.jpg

I prefer Seagate over all other brands, but it must be with motor 1. Motor 2 is bad in terms of idle noise.

I have low airflow setup and HDD were too hot to be instaled up. Now they are on bottom.

Has anyone 2.5" HDD in Scythe enclosure

I have two 3.5" HDDs in Scythe Quiet Drives. They are the loudest noise maker in my PC. So, I'm thinking of buying 2 Quiet Drive 2,5" and new notebook HDDs.

I read this on Scythe web page:

Undervolting E4x00 on 650i MB (Gigabyte/MSI)

Hello, Has anyone tried to undervolt CPU at default speed with: - Gigabyte GA-N650SLI-DS4 650i or - MSI P6N SLI Platinum 650i I did read manuals, but they don't say what is the minimum voltage you can select in BIOS. As far as I can understand, you can only go up on MSI, but I'd ask if anyone can co...

Passive GPU cooling is overrated for silence. It just means you need fans (that will make noise) elsewhere to pick up the slack rather than the one on the videocard. No, not true. It's only one part of a true quiet PC, but you must take care of other componentst too. You must have all components wi...

The GeForce 7950 GT shoud have max power consumption at about 60W.
I suppose you need good airflow for 'passive' card.

I have my hopes on 8600GT for a passive solution (similar power consumption as GeForce 7900 GS).

The high pitch whine from the Seagate 7200.10 drives me crazy. I seriously doubt it's above the frequency that only younger people can hear it because I (29 yrs old) can hear it loud and clear with the P180B door closed from 10+ feet away. That's assuming minimal ambient noise. I'm still trying to ...
