Fairly quiet workstation (P182 ++) - Updated 21.09.08

New pics on page 3! This is my "New" workstation, originally it lived in an old ATX fulltower case from 1997, but I got too tired of dust and noise problems, so.. enter 2007 and the glorious Antec P182 :D Specs: Antec P182 Corsair HX520W Asus P5W DH Deluxe Asus 7950GT 512MB E6600 Thermalright Ultra...

the 9700 isnt exactly quiet.. I'd rather go for Thermalright Ultra120 for the cpu + Thermalright HR-03 for the GPU..

Fans? Yate Loon or Nexus wouldnt be too bad, I've heard good things about using s-flex fans on the cpu cooler.

The Ultra120Extreme should give even better cooling than the scythe ninja.

I'm not so worried about cooling anyway, I'm hoping to be able to run both the cpu and vga passively.. probably not feasible, but who knows?

I know, but in my experience its a good idea to have some spares, in case there's insufficient cooling ;-)

Haha, you must be stoned, just wait till you see my P182 + Corsair 520W + P5W setup I'm gonna build in a few weeks :P It is, however, not very easy to hide 8 sata cables coming from a pci card going to drives just a few inches away... I am gonna try to tidy it up abit more tho, not just for the sake...

This just makes me want to go to Fry's and buy a whole setup with an E6600, 8800GTS, P182 right away instead of waiting till I get home to norway and build my current rig into one.. *drool*

(the P182 is actually cheaper online in norway than at Fry's...)

The idea of sending fans from Canada to Norway seems pretty good, do you have paypal? :D I'm looking at the HR-03 now, do you think it'd be ok for a passive setup if I mount a 120mm in the rear part of the upper drive bay? I'm not OCing my 7950GT anyway, I just want to get rid of the noisy Asus stoc...

The Raid part isnt 100% yet, I might not bother as I have more than 2.7TB of storage in raid5 in another box already. But if im gonna run raid5, the intel southbridge can handle a few drives with decent/good performance. I dont think Yate Loon is available in Norway, but I'll go for Nexus fans, runn...

PSU, Fan and CPU (C2D) HSF advice for P182

Heya, I'm going to move my current workstation into a P182 this summer, and I'm wondering about which PSU, Fans and CPU HSF I should get for decent cooling and reasonably low noise. The Coolermaster 4in3 is pretty good actually, but I miss better vibration reduction. The fans are audible above 9V, but not annoying even at full speed. I have 8x500GB Samsung 500GB's in a stacker, and the drives idle at around 28-31C with ambient temp 20-23C. With ambient temp soaring up in high 2...

I'm looking at one of the Asus P5WDG2-WS Pro cards, one with 2xPCI-X and C2D support, with plans of doing a E4300 + 2GB ram setup on it if I decide to upgrade, then I have alot more SATA ports too, for future expansion :)

It's actually not very noisy at all, there is almost no vibration because the stacker is quite heavy, and the 120mm fans are slow running fans, also the 120mm's in the front are behind dust filters that suck up abit noise, albeit at the cost of some airflow. The box actually makes less noise than my...
