A64 can run very cool with the right CPU and board. I have a DFI NF3-250GB mobo ($100) and a low-power (35w) Mobile Althon 2800+ CPU (1800mhz, 90nm with Winncester core, code name Oakville). The DFI bios accepts the mobil chip with no problem. I am both undervolt and overvolt the CPU. 270 x 9 = 2430...

The mounting bracket and posts are the same between the 7000A and 7000B. The only difference is the 7000B uses less cooper but manages to cool sightly better. The mounting method uses spring-loaded bolts screws onto two nipples which in turn are screwed on the backplate. The spring-loaded screws can...

Until the arrival of Turion, Oakville is indeed one of the coolest running chip around. This is the therma/performance of my 2800+ Oakville running on DFI NF3 250. All the voltage setting is prime stable and the loaded temperture is 22c- 29c. Cooling is Zalman 7000A 270 x 9 = 2430mhz 1.475v 270 x 8 ...

In my work-in-progress HTPC, I am using a 2-year old Zalman CNPS7000A on a DFI NF3-250gb (socket 754). It works fine using the included backplate and the 2 screw-posts . I think any Zalman HS with that type of design would fit too. By the way, I got a mobile Athlon 64 2800+ with 0.09u oakville core,...

I'd posted the same thread early. I was very concerned by the 11.5v@12v rail (at idle) issues. I found the same two reviews and both identified the same issues for different models. That could mean it is a fundamental design issue. Since I am in the middle of testing/constructing a new overclocked A...

Fry Electronic (and Outpost.com) will be carrying the whole line of Cleverpower PSU - 300, 400 and 500 watts starting 3/15. Newegg.com is OSS except the 300w version. The only other online outlet is bananapc.com. It has the 500w version for $50 + shipping. Very attractive prices indeed. Seems like a...

That's it. I am putting off buying this. I found another reivew of sps-400 saying the same thing-- the 12v rail is only 11.50v without load. That makes it two for two. I am buying a (quiet) PSU for a full water-cooling system. I need the a stable PSU. SPS-500 http://www.extremeoverclocking.com/revie...

Maybe you call them back vents? I call them front. :) And in case it isn't that obvious the pic bellow wa...

Their design makes sense, using a horzional blower sitting on top of the hot components. I don't care much about the built-in outlets. I'd just realized that Newegg had the ETA date of 3/31/04 (today) this morning and now they'd removed it from their site. May be they can't get the replacement stocks.

Yes, sponsor or no sponsor. Sharka sells the CleverPower SPS-500 for almost 50% higher price than Newegg does($80 vs. $53). Anyone has experience with CleverPower PSUs
The spec looks good, especially in the quietness department. I have read one review stating that it is indeed quiet but has a only 11.5v in its 12v rail. It uses a 15cm "blower" running at 800 rpm to achieve low noise level. Specifications: CleverPower SPS-500 Type: ATX Maximum Power: 500W Input Vol...

I did not realize this thread is still going on. Thank you for correcting my spelling. It was Venturi effect (Bernoulli Effect is in the mix too). The side by side exhaust with either a connecting "bridge" or jointed at the end will work. The presumed faster exhaust from the rear fan will "drag" or ...

Bluefront: I have been thinking about the same approach as well. BTW, this is call Ventura effect. The effect is "stronger" for "thicker" fluid. meaning water and oil. For "thinner" fluids like air, two air flows should merge in a more gentle manner like a narrow V-hape merger. Otherwise, the slower...

Lenny: I think you're right about the duct blocking the Northbridge HS, may be even the temperature sensor. I'd removed a 5 1/4 drive blank and it DID NOT lower the mobo temperature at all. I understand that using the HDD fan as the only intake fan (not counting the intake from the ducted CPU fan) is NOT conventional or recommended. With the ducted CPU fan, blocking the exit path for the air, it is not good for the air flow at all. That is why the mobo temperature went up from 25 to 28...
