Hello again, and thanks for all your replies :-) Hi, I tend to agree with MikeC. However, if you use ducts, I tend to think (partly from experience), that a fan sucking air through a duct will be more efficent than a fan blowing through it. Also, it's important that the duct is the same shape all ar...

Hi Mike, thanks for your comments although it wasn't quite what I wanted to hear ;-) I'll go ahead with the build though, if only for the challenge. I'll flip the psu over too, but will have to work out where the NB heat will exhaust. A thought to tackle the long wind tunnel problem might be to put ...

Custom chassis design - comments please!
Hey everyone, I've been thinking about and designing my own case (scratch build) for some time now. Main purpose of this thing is to get my system quiet (if that's not possible, I'll settle for very silent!), whilst still having it overclocked. I currently have the system in one of these , but this ...

error code 10 typically indicates a hardware issue, a hardware conflict, or severe driver issue. You could try removing the tuner card to see if your audio works again, or check for later drivers online. I'm not sure a bios update would fix the issue but it is worth a shot. Bios updates are relative...

Re: Acceptable temperatures for Q9550 and P5K mobo
I was just after a approximate answer - what temps should I be worried about? I'll follow up the links you posted. From the first link in my post: Tcase/Tjunction (per core) --70--/--75--75--75--75-- Hot --65--/--70--70--70--70-- Warm --60--/--65--65--65--65-- Safe --25--/--30--30--30--30-- Cool Yo...

Re: Acceptable temperatures for Q9550 and P5K mobo
I am seeing temperatures (in a warm room) of 43 degrees for the CPU and 37 degrees for mobo (system). Where are you seeing these temps? Seriously, Take 4 h/w monitoring softwares and you get 4 different temp readouts. Have a look at this link and this one . There's a lot more reading out there on t...

How's your board (asus maximus) with regards to dynamic fan controls and SpeedFan support? I'm not familiar with the Vdroop mod but as a newbie to underclocking, I think I'd prefer to stick with safer methods like BIOS settings.... I have an Asus Maximus Formula and love it. Maybe I can afford ~0.5 cm around the motheboard, but that's it. Have you considered the Thermalright Ultra-90 ? The Xeon Bolt Thru Kit lists it as compatible. Its dimensions are L45 x W102 x H147. 102mm-92mm = 1cm, so 0.5cm on each side. The 80mm would pose no problems. Is it correct that the 80 a...

I always put the motherboard in the pc and then install the CPU and heatsink. That will only work for heatsinks with pushpins or similar. Hmm.. Good idea, I was a bit worried about the drives not being in the path of the airflow. I'll have to see what I can do about that, thanks. Hi, one other point. In your sketchup drawings, the Ninja is perpendicular to the airflow - make sure you actually mount it in line with the airflow otherwise it won't work very well. Hi Vinnie, I know the intel motherboards reasonably well from work and they seem to be nice and stable (fingers crossed ;-)). I'd agree it would be much easier to start with a quiet case like the solo, as suggested above. If that's not possible, try and idientify the source of the noise in your case. Your power calculations are correct - that AC adapter outputs 60W max. Seems a bit strange to put this in a kit with a 90W pciopsu. However, you could go for the 12V 6.6A version which should roughly give you 80W. You can find it here . I'm not sure about the power needs of your individual component...

The fact that you system shuts down on boot up suggests a hardware failure. Not necessarily... I've seen several boards in the past where this was normal behaviour, after the power cord was plugged in. I believe the reason was they systems needed to check whether to boot after AC power loss, but co...
