I have the Brennenstuhl PM 230 and the Maplin meters. I got the Brennenstuhl one first but it has unfortunately lost accuracy in the 0-40W range so I went out and bought the Maplin instead and it's fine so far.

Removing Sonata III door

I have this case and I'd like to install it for a friend, as a replacement for a generic case w/ poor ventilation. Seeing as "power on keyboard" support is flaky on his motherboard, I would like to remove the Sonata's front door to ease access to the power button. Would that be a straightforward mod?

Can you pick up one of the modules and see what's the voltage rating on it? You can find it under the model name.

Asus DRW-24B1ST review (also applies to DRW-24B1LT)

There's not a whole lot to say about DVDRW drives these days, but every now and then someone comes asking which one is good, so I thought I'd share my findings. I hope it helps someone out there. :) The DRW-24B1ST is the most recent model in Asus' DVD writers lineup. It is listed alongside the Light...

I have one of these, and I'd like to share my impressions. I compared it directly with my 3-platter WD10EACS (Caviar GP). Idle noise: it is louder than the GP, and slightly higher pitched, but unobtrusive enough to merge with general fan noise. Seek noise: it is on par with the GP, perhaps a bit sha...

I will be nice if those idle power figures appear in retail cards. Yeah, I hope so too. Not much mention of other power saving measures like being able to disable the video card and just use on-board video for 2D stuff. Clarkdale's integrated graphics should do it, but I haven't seen it demonstrate...

I bought 2 of these. They're fairly quiet but not near-silent like the Enermax Pro/Modu, or silent like the Nexus 430W. I believe they're at the same noise level as the previous S12-II units. I haven't opened them or changed the fan so I can't comment on the inside. As for the cables, for some reaso...

IIRC my Pioneer DVR-216 SATA drive contributes a 2W AC load, and I think this figure is similar for most other full-height 5.25" models. I don't know what it needs the watts for; I just view it as another instance where the desktop is thrown to the dogs as far as power efficiency is concerned.

In addition to switching off phases, the DES utility can also drop the core voltage. Here, I can choose from 3 states, the first being "normal" and the others off-spec. Have you, by chance, activated that too?

Thanks. I suppose the lack of user complaints says something, if we consider the large enthusiast 'user base'. Does your wife find it suitable for prolonged office work? That'd be the main use.

Yes, I can get it locally. The rep I spoke with expects stocks to be depleted within 2 months but I wouldn't be surprised if it happens earlier. I've never heard of a QA problem with it, I thought it was more about limited panel supply.

Is Dell 2209WA a safe buy with regard to noise?

I consider picking up this monitor for an upcoming build (I might start a thread about it later). I saw it today on display, and did not notice any immediate deal breaker. I wasn't thrilled with the image quality, but I thought it was usable and not too bright with brightness at 0% and contrast at 7...

I can't see how it's going to be any different when WD readies a single platter 640GB drive in early 2010. :( I certainly would love to pick one up to go with a Clarkdale build, but waiting another 8 months till the dust settles is out of the question.

Not so soon. Maybe not until 2011? The next capacity point for 3.5" platters is 640GB and it'll be available in early 2010:
