Your best bet..... find a quiet optical drive. Next best....find a drive that Nero Drive Speed can adjust slower, and that will remember the setting on a re-boot. Not all drives will be compatible...... Third best.....use an external optical drive. They seem to be quieter. Fourth best...attempt to f...

You normally get very little benefit using a bigger fan to suck or blow through a smaller-size opening. Of course there's always the bling factor.....

The Evercool 140mm Red Scorpion (Newegg, PerformancePC) comes with such an adapter, as do some of the Aerocool 140x20mm models.

That should work ok.....if you can fit a bolt in there. When I've had similar issues, I've tightened a nut and bolt to the board in the four holes.....had the threaded part of the bolt sticking up. The relative temperature differences between the various MB components on various boards, differs greatly. Some boards just don't run extremely hot. The D865-GLC has some hot spots. The combination of the skirts and the different fan on my setup, lowered some of these board components >15C. (I used ...

It's hard to tell from such a brief description of the case....custom made completely? Two fans, with one blowing out, another in, and the case with mesh openings all over? Having multiple passive openings all over the case, assures a part of the airflow will by-pass the hot spots completely.....whi...

This has got to be the first heat-sink I ever owned and was using.......before an SPCR review. And my impressions are similar, but not exactly the same. My Zipang replaced a Thermalright XP-120, on an Intel D865-GLC board, using a P4-3.4EE (hot). It idles at 110w and goes to about 200w draw running ...

Hypernova.... If you cut out a section of the stuff and place it between two fans, the effect will be the same as that "airflow straightener". Airflow straightener.....rather than order something at great shipping expense, why not a DIY solution? The idea sounds reasonable, and I guess the use of a relatively common heatsink, could enable the tests to be duplicated by those interested, using a standard resistance. I'd be interested if the comparative results were the same if the fan were blowing or sucking through the resistance. I suspect t...

Most fans have the actual model# printed on the hub. You can do a Google search and find out more info on the thing.

Sounds like you have an older PSU. A slower fan would make it quieter, but might not cool well enough. An upgrade to a new/quieter PSU should be your first priority.....IMO.
