Very nice! However, instead of grinding the bracket to move the heatsink what about pushing the fan forward instead? http://www.moddiy.com/products/Deepcool-P120-Devibration-Rubber-Pad-For-120mm-Fan-Mounting.html This would have been possible however will it have given the same cooling effects I do...

Re: looking fan controller with pwm input and 3 pin output
On my last system I had a PWM-DC convertor from a company called PaQ although I'm not sure if they still produce it. It did allow a full range of adjustment so that PWM % could be set to translate for an appropriate voltage. Works really well actually.

In what case? It depends upon the layout of the case really as to how big a cooler you can use. Will you consider only Noctua? This limits your choice and is expensive even though their fans are excellent.

Coil whine is YMMV. There have been certain combinations and motherboard settings linked to whine with Seasonic. If you don't have ErP compliance in your motherboard then there may be some issues is what they've suggested here before.

They have recently been showing off a 200mm fan. I've no doubt they will have mulled over other sizes but we have to accept that they will only do what there is a business case for. You can't assume that because you and a number of others want a product that it is viable for them to launch one.

Re: The most annoying thing about building a PC
Windows XP Pro will support SMP so a dual core CPU is not an issue. I don't run XP myself but my parents still do and it's a long running thing that at some point I'll have to upgrade them. Interestingly, I did an XP install last week on an old system and it looks like it's getting harder to do. MS ...

Be Quiet! Pure Power 9
Thought I would write about my brief experiences with this PSU as it's pretty new and hasn't been mentioned on SPCR before I believe. The reason for getting one was that my Mum's computer failed and the root cause was a 10 year old PSU from a company called Tsunami: China's 37th best PSU manufacture...

Re: Puget Systems looks at Samsung 950 Pro throttling
I have seen some similar testing previously but this is the first testing I've seen to compare cooling methods. I was thinking of some small heatsinks on mine but wanted to do some quantitative testing to prove it. I would have thought that a small ramsink would be appropriate.

The DB4 seems to have been vapourware for a couple of years since they first showed it. I'm guessing it took some time to make it work properly or get series production tooled up for something so unique.

In effect it is just a bendy heatpipe. Could be useful for some installations but looking at that radiator the fins look a bit close together for passive operation. A radiator like the original Zalman Reserator would be more suited for fanless operation but this looks to be more designed for fan coo...

Here are my comments: Case: An unusual internal configuration, can work out quite well but don't expect absolute silence with such high power components in it. Quiet maybe but not silent. Motherboard: Maybe a bit cheap compared with the CPU and graphics card. You are missing out on some features lik...

Hi, I didn't see anything mentioned in here but maybe you could help me out. If I go for a SFX PSU like the new Corsair SF450W. Would this allow for a longer graphic card like in the Ncase M1? The PSU length does effect graphics card length. I have a 160mm long PSU and this limits you to a 175mm PC...

I wouldn't say that a new case is the best thing you could do. Deal with the noise of the components within the case and if you need to mod the case to improve cooling, it doesn't tend to be too hard.

Re: Mini PC Makers asleep at the wheel? Where's my semi-pass
If it was semi-passive out of the box I'd accept it, but if I have to purchase an additional accessory for it What accessory to you mean? NUC units are largely fanless anyway so why would you want to add a fan? If you want something silent, build it yourself. We have to realise that while quiet com...

What exactly do you consider a mini PC? How small does it have to be?
There are tonnes of fanless NUCs and passive MiniITX is possible. There are many solutions but are you just talking about prebuilt systems?

IMVHO a Noctua R8 Redux PWM inside that FX100 could be a nice addition. Agreed. When a passive cooler is hitting 90C even the slowest spinning fan will yield enormous cooling improvements. Buzzing components are typically louder than a good fan doing 200-300rpm and the massive reduction in t...

Will you guys kill me if I go with the nano s? No, I'm sure it's a good case but is it best for your relatively low power components? As you observe, it seems to be more designed for water cooling, plus the gap between the graphics card and PSU restricts the cooling designs possible should you wish...

At home I don't see the point unless you have a large number of users and they are going to be using a computer most of the time. The one server would have to be an always on system so that means you're going to be burning through a lot of electricity, even if it is just idling.

Reading comprehension people. It was a hypothetical question. If you had a hybrid semi fanless 1500 watt PSU and kept the load at 225-250 watts would it's fan stay off permanently. Never once did I say I wanted to buy one. It was a question out of curiosity that is it. Geez Alright, calm down. We k...

Yes, as in the space on your desk. Specifically wanting something short, yet wide with a surprisingly large footprint. If you specifically want a small volume but can tolerate a large footprint then it is passable, but it's a pretty unusual niche.claes wrote:"Gap?"

It looks like a pretty low power setup so you can make things really small if you wish. As you are already interested in the Z170i Pro Gaming coincidentally I have one and the CPU socket placement makes it near ideal for use in the Raijintek Metis.

Because those 400-500 watt full fanless PSU's suck. They run incredible hot like 85C constantly and radiate a lot of heat into the case. No problem here with mine. Do you have personal experience with one? In fact, if you were to run a 1500 Watt PSU at 200W, it till run less efficiently that a 400W...

Re: A Silent CaseLabs Bullet?
22 litres isn't the absolute smallest for MicroATX (Silverstone Sugo cases are smaller) so I wouldn't be too bothered about that but where I do have to question it more is the layout - you have a relatively large footprint but with little height. What sort of gap do you have to fill that would make ...
