dx12 it kills it 25% - 13% faster at 1440p and scales same to 1080p.

thats the major thing. that is huge.

Re: GTX 1060 Compilation Thread

hard ocp people reviewed the 1060gtx as a bit lower than the rx 480 consistently in modern games.

i am upset about that. If it was a 179 dollar card and nice and cool running as it is, I would be happy. I have to game at 1440p so this is an issue now.

the 8-pin connector on non-reference cards makes that the only card to buy. I cannot imagine having to worry about my whole computer going on fire because of a power draw that exceeds 75 watts at the board. Re: First GTX 1060 european official pricing seen on web

I am a fan of AMD until most recently, cpu wise. The 1090T era was the last good chip they put out aside from their cheaper APU machines which are the best to build for family and friends where cost but features are needed. I have been trying to buy an Nvidia card for over 10 years. Every time one p...

Re: First GTX 1060 european official pricing seen on web

Nvidia is always the slick and scummy one. It never would have given the public its 1060 GTX 3-4 months early if it wasnt for AMD making a card for all people at a good price. And now they do a paper launch with a cheap price to try and slow down the sales of AMD, causing hesitancy. For the past thr...

Re: AMD RX 480 reference card

I will be using the thing to do SETI@Home. It will first go in this old machine and then in a new one. I know a 1070 would be optimal but it is a lot of cost. I also will be using it for 1440p gaming. The RX480 already can do that, if the 1060 GTX is faster, that would be a consideration. 192 bit ra...

Re: AMD RX 480 reference card

I will have to wait for 1060 6gb and the strix asus before I buy now.

Such constant delays to get the right card. Also, this is the price of Reference 1060 gtx. Probably add 30 dollars for different versions. Could be a 299 dollar card or who knows what

the motherboard has some cool parts on it. like the nic/lan ports are above average parts, a few things on the board seem to be as well. I guess a server rack doesnt need more than 3 phase power even on 24/7 for a few years under stress. I wonder why not toss a few more phases on it to lighten the l...

you use the word "can't" in a special way my Italian friend :)

Do you remove the old IHS and clean it off and reapply the TIM once a year?

Opinions on this fancy Asus board.

https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/P10S-WS/specifications/ Check that out. It is fancy because it is a workstation class board with everything i would use on it for gaming. The question is this: Notice the 3+2 phase power. That is on every server board i have seen. Supermicro, tyan (not many tyan...

Re: [Ridiculous] De-Liding of CPU's. Anyone ever try it on h

I would imagine the lower temperatures would show up at stock voltages as the chip will be moderately stressed. Delidding + liquid metal TIM is expected to bring in -10/-15°C at stock, depending of your chip: do you need that for crunching? I can't help, but in case pair the mod with a proper shim ...

I am considering delidding as I intend my cpu to number crunch for like 12-16 hours a day for several years. I would imagine the lower temperatures would show up at stock voltages as the chip will be moderately stressed. Hm? Making this machine a sci-fi number cruncher. I only build one main machine...

[Rediculous] De-Liding of CPU's. Anyone ever try it on here?

I know that SPCR tests cpu's. I know they never took a IHS/Lid off of one and re-applied the TIM and re-tested it. Seems like a dangerous idea, but the temperatures of the chips are 3-6 C less or more in some instances. INtel supposedly uses really garbage thermal paste and also badly applied. Any t...

The price difference is likely due to the VAT (which is different than a sales tax).

now, for almost all chips in a series, they normally just disable a section rather than make a new chip. I dont know if that is true anymore with skylake chips or xeon chips. I would think that they only disable them if they are "bad binned" and not inentional. Therefore, i would think that a 1270 i...

Re: Xeon Skylake: E3-1200 v5 series - It looks awesome.

Well, what i propose is to get one or the other e3 xeon chip and not use the IGP. does that change what you were trying to say? On a linux benchmark, on phoronix, the tpd's of various max/min e3-1200 v5's seem to be almost all the same on load, just 1-2 watt differences. that confused me to no end.

anyone know the difference between the e3-1275 v5 and the e3-1270 v5? One has graphics for +$9 dollars the other one does not. however, my question is not about that, but about the chip itself. Is the 1270 simply the same chip with just defective graphics unit disabled? would there be a notable redu...
