Thanks. The wonderous U-channel edge trim hides all! Seriously though, I must have spiraled out 1/8-inch at a time. It took forever but turned out nicely though. Lots of bonding time for me with my Wiss tin snips. My elastic is so loose, I seriously doubt it is hurting. My sorbothane is only compres...

attempt to silence my DirecTiVo
Inspired by Pauli's silencing of his DirecTivo, I made a similar attempt. Mine is a Samsung, and it was loud. You could hear the 60mm fan droning on and the HDD seeking from at least 10-15ft away, even when it was "off." I say "off," because a Tivo is never really off. It is always recording off the...

How is this DFI better for you than an Ultra-D? Is it less expensive? I don't know much about it. Although the Ultra-D has two 16x VGA slots, don't think that implies SLI. Think of it as giving you flexibility in where you place your VGA, allowing for more cooling options of your nF4 chip. Unless th...

That same article contains some circuits for controlling LED current and hence brightness. There is no doubt those are superior to simply using resistors. ...because building a dedicated circuit to make the bulb dimmer makes a whole lot more sense than just changing the bulb (for free). Did ...

Looking at my photos, it is clear more of the fins would have be trimmed a bit where they would contact the bottom card. I doubt it would have a big effect on nF4 cooling. BTW, the NB47J is not symmetric. One side has shorter fins on it than the other side. If you put the longer side towards the top...

Changing Voltage is not the same as changing resistance. There are several different ways you can regulate voltage. The Zalman fanmate and most other Linear regulation methods will not alter the resistance. The Sunbeam Rheobus MAY change the resistance (I don't know the circuit layout, so I can't s...

I don't like the idea of epoxy. If the fan gets damaged/wears out, you cannot swap it. If I get around to a fan swap on my 7000B, I will probably do as others here have and use bolts or screws, probably with a layer of sorbothane between the fan and the HS. Either that or use some velcro with adhesi...

Perhaps you should have titled this "Venice & Asus problem." The DFI nF4 boards supposedly work fine with Venice with the originally shipping 1/25 BIOS according to DFI.

Just poke around and see what folks are using for Winchesters. I don't believe the power consumption of Venice is very different from Winchester. I've seen initial reports of Venice using more power than Winchester and some lower. I would think you could use a Nexus 92mm. I use a Zalman 7000B at min...

Changing the voltage on an LED will not affect its brightness. Every LED has an effective operating range around its rated voltage. While inside this range, it will light up with its specified amount of output. Outside this range it will no longer light up. See my previous post about replacing the ...

I believe the side panels are interchangeable per things I've read in this forum (maybe a post by Ralf Hutter?). I wanted the benefit of Striping, did not want the risk of Mirroring (twice the opportunity for failure of one big drive - if one drive dies you lose the data across both drives), and didn't want to buy 4 drives to do RAID 0+1 (Mirroring of Striped drives). Mirroring decreases risk, not increases i...

The top slot (closest to CPU) is a 4x physical PCIe slot. Some PCIe peripheral could go in there, but there aren't many of those yet. Altogether you have 4x, 16x, 1x, 16x physical PCIe slots top to bottom. The actual assignments of lanes is different though and depends on the setting of the SLI jump...

My Winchester 3500+ needs the 4% vcore bump (1.46V) just to be prime 24-hour stable at stock speeds. Maybe I got unlucky, but it doesn't sound terribly uncommon for Winchester from my reading around various forums. Others are clearly more lucky. It is really hit and miss with overclocking. Yes, the ...

I have two identical SP1614Cs suspended 1in apart right in the airflow from the front 3000B vent with grill removed (no fan there). They are mounted "right side up". Consistently, the top drive runs about 5C cooler, presumably because the airflow is directed more over the bottom of the drive as comp...
