halcyon's points & questions are right on, imo, but some of the responses in this thread already show the typical mindset. re-- "The rest is just eco-fascism." My reason for immediately dismissing his way of thinking is different. He makes the same mistake the eastern european communists made. Name...

For me it's the same as most times. Except I haven't had a slow day like previously used to happen from time to time. But with only two evenenings since the migration, that doesn't really say anything. That it is faster for Mike isn't strange. Websites hosted in Amsterdam (were my ISP is) are mostly...

There are no "16 PCIe drivers". The piece of plastic is big enough to fit a large card, but there is only 1 (one) lane connected. (Like frostedflakes already said above.) That is what the "Compatible" part in the specs stands for.

People keep repeating that, but I still have not seen any proof that the PSU in the Antec NSK-3300 is realy 80Plus. Not all Seasonic SS-300SFD are 80Plus. There are several models with that number that are closely related.

Don't forget this is an European directive. In Europe a much larger portion of the solid waste is burned, not dumped in landfills. So whether the lead leaches from solder in landfills isn't that interesting. Most of it will end up in slag and fly ash, which will end up in landfills and which are muc...

That $300 card is PCI 2.2, so if you put it in your standard mobo (if there are no components that block it from being inserted) it will not get those advertised speeds, because it has to run in a legacy mode. Or you could buy an extra expensive industrial/workstation mobo were it does fit.

You can react all insulted. This just means you didn't learn anything from what I just told you. I can't smell from your first post if you know RAID 5 can't replace backups. You are planning to use RAID 5 for something it isn't intended to be used for. RAID 5 is NEVER a replacement for backups, this is a very common misconception. RAID 5 is a method to reduce downtime. A $150 RAID controller most probably doesn't have a chip on board that does the calculations, so it wi...

ADSL modems are a very specialized piece of hardware, you don't get those with routers. Have a look here e.g. All the products on that page (except the 330) are integrated modem/routers. The ones with an antenna have an integrated wifi access point too. P.S. I don't know how good these are. (...

The 100+Mb WiFi is (still) not standardised, so results are only guaranteed if you buy all your WiFi stuff from the same manufacturer. There is also no guarantee that a simple firmware upgrade will make it compliant with the standard when (if) it is finalised somewhere next year.

No, it doesn't.

Your mobo chipset or a PCI RAID controller offers RAID. They can do that for SATA and/or for IDE. Maybe you have a mobo that only offers it for the SATA ports, but this is by no means general.

Promotional pictures for ATX PSU's with 12cm fans always show them lying upside down. So if the picture shows the fan in the top, the fan will be in the bottom once mounted in a case.
