Re: Japan's Tsunami Disaster
Yes, somebody in Japan said it was the biggest disaster since the war. Bad place for a nuclear plant. Did not they know there can be tsunami? Germany has shut down 7 plants. Strange... For how long? ...the net economic impact will be a positive... Only because the numbers have nothing in common with...

I have MX440 64MB PCI, works in any MB. Newer PCI cards should work also. But very old cards don't (I have 3 - Trident 9440, S3,...). Just a black screen. I would like to know the reason...

You have no reason not to believe the specs. It is normal (but not usual)

Re: 220V alternative to Kill-a-Watt Power Energy Meter
ADE pin No 2 is interesting. "The HPF should be enabled in power metering applications." Then some loads (like a simple half-wave regulator for a soldering iron) may be measured wrong.

Dell 2407WFP 45(black screen)-48(white)W at minimum brightness (which is enough for computer use), 89-90W at max. Just for comparison.

One limitation is an IR thermometer does not measure correctly on a metal surface.
Distance/area is important, but there is one more thing (never specified) - the initial width of the beam, at 2mm distance or so.

Re: 220V alternative to Kill-a-Watt Power Energy Meter
PM230 should be avoided, apparently. A normal meter measures starting at 1W (albeit with quite an error). Max 3680W (16A).
Only for moments when the meter is not plugged in. For clock, settings (like kWh price), results.MoJo wrote:...batteries?

My AM2+ Phenom II X4 runs 2.5GHz, 1.1375V CPU, 1.2V NB, draws 50W (load), at 1.2V would draw 58W. Separate power planes save me some 8W. It is quite a difference. But more common situation would be more GHz, CPU voltage more than NB voltage. There would be little difference, NB does not draw much. A...

The chimney creates some positive pressure in it's top and negative in it's bottom. The case can be considered part of the chimney. When off (and cold), the same pressure everywhere.
But the idea is good. Some time ago I was thinking about making an intake tube from outside. Would not work in summer.

Re: PSU Mod: Improve PSU efficiency removing min load resist
About something burning, exploding etc. Btw, I was taught that under rare circumstances skin's resistance is rather low and 12V may be dangerous. I'm expecting it will be about 1A or less on each resistor. I'm guesstimating it will be about 15 watts (10-20w) on a 300W cheap PSU. Bullshit. It is abou...

CPU fan header may be limited to about 5V min. Other headers often go down to 0V with Speedfan.
There is no such thing, "restart reliably at some higher voltage". You never know at what voltage.
Low noise fans are designed for lower rpm at 12V. They stop at higher voltage than fast fans (in general).

I compared 760G to 785G, did not see any difference (at idle). Split voltages are not that important, there is not much to gain, sometimes the two would be the same. An AM2 board would mean slower hypertransport, less power. Anyway, I think a newer CPU will give you more speed at the same temperatur...

I have one with "clicks of death", too. Some sectors are really slow. It's a shame the drive passes Seatools diagnostics. Another thing: the drive disappears (tested on 2 motherboards of the same model, could be the motherboard's problem). Regarding the number of platters. Seagate shows it in the mo...
