Ummm, fair enough... Simple answer; it depends on the cooler. The LGA775 holes are 75mm apart in a square formation. If you have a VGA cooler with a variable mounting mechanism, like on the old Aerocool VM-102, then you should be OK. Some coolers have fixed holes, 4850/4870/5850/5870 is 75.5x75.5mm,...

Yes, you do need to remove the whole cooler from the card, then unscrew some more screws to remove the baseplate from the rest of the cooler, then reattach the baseplate to the card, then install the S1. There is no short-cut as the screws connecting the baseplate to the rest of the cooler assembly ...

I use an S1 on my 5850, but with a Thermalright VRM R4 instead of the stock baseplate, so some of this is guesswork; 1. I cut the fins, only need to take about 4mm off the ends, I used nail scissors to do it, the metal is very thin. 2. I think that 125c was without fan, but I could be wrong. When I ...

My setup is slightly different; e8400, and no fan on the IFX-14 (just a 120mm case fan ~1 inch away). The temps I get are:
Idle (case fan @ 800rpm): 49/39 (core0/core1)
Load (case fan @ 1800rpm): 55/45 (core0/core1)
(This is with speedstep enabled)

Yes yes, I know, momentary retardation on my part. The fan in question was a 4-pin molex type, I made an adapter so that I wouldn't have to modify either the PSU or the fan wires/molex connectors. Then at some point I rebuilt the PC, not paying too much attention, plugged the molex-SATA power connec...

From the SPCR review of the Noctua NH-D14 : "Ultra-Low-Noise Adaptors: The blue one has an 81 ohm resistor , while the black one measures 50 ohms. The first brings the speed of the 12cm fan down to ~900, and the second does the same to the 14cm fan." Not too sure on power ratings, but the larger of ...

...The VRM R4 is great for what it does, which is too cool the VRMs. The VRM runs cooler than the stock setup, if you have the heatsink propped up within the vicinity of your tower CPU fan. If you're working at all on a budget I would recommend a dual over quad, unless you have specific software you will use lot which can make use of the extra cores. My personal recommendation for what I percieve your usage pattern to be would be a dual core AMD like the Athlon 64 X2 5600+, a 740G or 7...

Just seen this on the interwebs Dyson launches the bladeless electric fan . At first I thought "awesome, that's going to be perfect, no blades=no noise, and the laminar flow will produce less noise than the turbulent flow of bladed fans". Then I read more, and it turns out there is a DC impeller som...
