Re: Atom VS Pentium 4 - IT IS ON!
I don't have a Sandy Bridge to test anymore so I was using the published results of some kind of benchmark I found with Google. I had assumed 1.2Ghz instead of 1.6 for the SB underclock. With 1.6 and my numbers, the SB would be more than twice as fast, clock for clock. But the difference would stil...

Re: Spinning heatsink
TBH it seem to me like this device has noting to do with termal paste. It replaces the thermal paste with a thin layer (.0001") of of constantly sheared air. If you use this invention, you dispense with the need for thermal paste. I don't think that is true. As far as I can tell the air bearing (0....

I just did a quick swap between the Noctua and Nexus to see how they fair. Both ran at a fixed ~690 using BIOS to control the speed. CPU cooler is Termalright Ultra Extreme rev 1 that has fairly tight fin spacing. notice the near identical performance as reflected in the minimum and maximum temps fo...

Re: Spinning heatsink
This seems like its still in early stages of development and proof of concept rather than ready for production design. I like the out of the box thinking here. To me it makes more sence in air conditioning or other possible industrial/motor/car enviorment rather than in a PC. If it can realy make an...

Re: fans with above-average Pressure at Lowest dBA
Its unlikely anyone can draw conclusions from comparing information from a few review sites that use different test methodology. Still, ignoring (for a moment) what I know + what SPCR review knowledge base has to offer, and focusing on just the x-bit roundup - its clear that when running most fans a...

62 is fairly low, indicating there is good contact and termal paste is doing its job. Stock paste is a bit ~~~:( but its not a huge differance and could lead to a maybe 2-3c (some test show as much as 5 but I personally have never seen it) 73 when OCed is about what it should be with Mugen2....

Re: Air Flow - GTX550ti vs 6950
1st you need to change the typo in the title from 550ti to 560ti 2nd I personally don't think much about recycling of hot air in the case since there should be sufficient airflow in the P180 to remove the hot air quickly. What matters (to me) is the fan speed and the noise level of that fan. If a co...

Re: Fan Control on Sandy Bridge/Fractal R3 system
As for the CAD software im pretty sure all of that stuff should have full multithreading capabilities by now, so it would definately pay to go with a quad core (check your softwares documentation)..... I plan on doing a bit of 3dstudio max on this system, hopefully I can get away with it on here (I...

well I assume 1600 is the idle mhz just from reading tons and tons of posts on various messageboards. It seems to be what everyone refers to as idle speed. I think it's great if it only used 3 watts at 1600 but heck it could be 1 or 1.5 haha. I have read of people using picos but I do not want to g...

I'm not sure what the context of this discussion is, but are there any P4's that weight 3lbs and have battery lives of 6+ hours? Not that I'm a fan of the Atom. But... just sayin'! I agree that Atom is amazing in laptops. Under $400, over 5 hours of battery life at around 3 lbs.! HFat and I were he...

Re: Case fans for P150 upgrade to Sandy Bridge recommendatio
How are your HDD temps? That's about the only reason why you'd want a front intake fan on a 150/solo...a 400-500rpm silent fan lowered my HDD temp to case temp. HDDs are very comfortable at low 30s while working. They are set to 'turn off HDD'=Never in the Win7 control panel. This is recommended fo...

I have the Intel DP67BGB3 motherboard. It replaced a dp67bg due to a recall on the sata ports. I reused the hard drive from the board with the problem and installed it on the new MB. Hi : Thanks for the response! I have purchased a case fan(Noiseblocker Silent Pro) and a Mux 120 CPU heatsink. I'll wait on the PSU until after the install. I suspect I might need an intake fan..... One more question if I may: Where should the quietest fan be placed? CPU or exhaust? Both are 120mm ...

Some odd choices in that comparison but even so it seems to be valid. First odd choice was to use a GT430 GPU for the Intel while the AMD uses ~6550D, why not pop a 5550DH card in there? its supposed to be near identical to 6550D right? Second there is no info about what motherboard was used with th...

Re: Cooler Master Silencio 550 Quiet ATX Tower
Seems like a very good effort from CM, much better than the 500. Not perfect maybe but still a real option. Looks are much better and the top buttons and ports section is a very nice touch. I like that is has front to back only airflow, with no top or side vents. How would the case perform if you fi...

Re: Heatsink performance - direct mounted fan vs case fan pr
I'm guessing - due to tight spacing of the fins on TRUE revC its better to have a fan mounted. Noise wise it shouldn't be a big deal, but for someone running passive Ninja for a few years I can see how mounting a fan can be a hard sell (psychologically). I have TRUE rev1 with a fixed low RPM (~500) ...

Re: Is X-400 fanless suitable for Antec P183
I was thinking of a similar setup, a x-400 or 460 (460 was the cheaper psu here for a while, not sure if it still is) in a p182. Currently I have a 350w psu for my i5 / hd6850 computer. Now, I do encoding and some gaming, but the x-400 should be fine, right? I mean, even after ~24h of 100% cpu load...

That sig needs to be uprayed. I now have both F1 and the F3 103 SJ in trays. SSD is hard mounted in a 5.25 bay. Hi, I don't have any problem with these HDDs. Apart from using them on many builds, I recently got one for my own rig to replace a humming WD AAKS with great success. Why change your CPU heat sink? The new Sandy Bridge chips produce less heat than the last generation. If the Ninja was working well before, it will work even better with the new generation of CPUs. Yes. Get the 2500K and re-use the Ninja (there must be an adapter kit for 1156). Otherwise the freeze...
