ASUS 8400GS troubles, component out and CRT TV connection?

Hey everyone, So my old Geforce 6600 decided to die this weekend, while I was installing a new audio card. I bought an ASUS EN8400GS SILENT/HTP/256M to replace it. My old card had a TV-out (S-Video with a S-Video to composite connector), which I used to connect to my trusty old CRT TV, via a SCART a...

The best reputation on this board in that wattage range, is probably the Corsair VX450, possibly even the HX520, even thought that might be a bit too much for a small server. It might be wise to fan-swap it at the same time. That is a good quietener for PSUs.

Cheers!

Thanks for your help I've decided to go for the Antec Solo, so now ATX options are available Which motherboard should I go for? P43 or P45? You'll be perfectly fine with just a G31 motherboard. Same functionality, just much less $$/££. So for pure value for money, G31 wins. If you want to overclo...

Hi, It would be even quieter if you cut out the rear fan grill. (Use a wire grill to prevent fingers from getting in, if needed.) Hey Neil... I took your advice and busted out my new Dremel. No more exhaust fan grill. I also cut a nice rectangular hole for the PicoPSU connector, so I can plug the p...

Well, to be honest, a complete fanless PC with the specs you have put down is almost impossible. Not only that, but just one hard drive will usually draw more noise than a good quiet fan. I would suggest something in the lines of this: AMD 780G µATX motherboard + 4850e CPU ThermalRight HR-01 Plus/S...

I used foam to cover the chassis sides in a previous build. Worked well to shave a dB or so off, but don't expect miracles if you have silly loud fans or something. IMO it's about the last touch to an aleady really quiet system. My system is about as quiet as it gets without taking extreme measures,...

Re: Quiet gaming system inside nks3480 - a doomed idea?

Hey! A Dremel should cut through the steel plate well. I got a Dremel for Christmas and it chews through steel-bolts, so I think a plate should be no problem. But you'll get a much nicer hole with a hole-saw. Just get a proper hole saw and use it in your drill. They're not very expensive. http://www...

Hi. Haven't posted around here much, but now I think it's time to give it a shot. The situation: I'm tired of my current motherboard being so awfully unstable and overheating. My CPU temps are terrible too even after multiple reseatings of the cooler. Probably due to high voltage which I need to ke...

I would go for a PicoPSU setup in your case. Bedroom PC should be really quiet IMO! If it's only for movie watching with IGP a PicoPSU is adequate and way more quiet than any fanned PSU out there. For your use, which isn't regular desktop use but more HTPC use, you could easily use a 2.5" laptop har...

Do you know if this 4GB kit at 1.8v and without heatsinks will generate more or less heat than my current 2GB kit which is at 2.2v and has heat spreaders? Yes, because a 2 GB stick takes about the same watts as a 1 GB of same type . So you'll probably save watts by going from 2 GB @ 2.2 V to 4 GB @...

Don't they use quite a bit more power than a fan? Like lots of times more? I think there is a limit to how many amps a fan header is designed to carry! You better know that limit before you short out the fan header and burn out your motherboard.

The ThermalRight HR-01 Plus is 159.5 mm tall and I've seen pictures in the Gallery with that in combination with the NSK3480, so I assume that any heat sink <159.5 mm (E.g. Ninja2) fits.

HDT1284 has four heat pipes, 1283 has three. I would assume that HDT1284 is the better for this reason. What do you mean by fan direction? You mean to have the rear case fan either sucking air into the case or exhausting air out of the case? Maybe the HX520 has a slower fan and will generate less ai...

I doubt it's that great for SPCR standards. However, Anandtech has their way of measureing dBs and SPCR has their ways. So you can't compare Anandtech dB to SPCR dB, the same way you can't compare the manufacturers claimed dB to what you actually perceive. None of it is wrong but the methods are dif...
