Actually, it's going to be more of a replacement to the Core i7-880 if it's at $500. We'd need to wait for LGA-2011 for a Core i7-950 replacement. However, since Intel introduced the i7-875K at ~$340, it's a bit difficult to stomach what seems like a "replacement" at $160 more. Addendum: Upon furthe...

Actually, I find the 45W quad-core to be more noteworthy. :P Couldn't have been easy to get it that low while maintaining a 2+ GHz clock. Everything's inclusive of iGPU, too. :D

Looks like we'll be getting Sandy Bridge on-time Q1'10/Q1'11. I wonder when we'll even get to see Fusion.

I think calling it a "525K" will cause even more confusion. That would imply it's slower than a Core i3-530. Trying to fit it inside the current Core nomenclature is also difficult. With Lynnfield already at i7-880, there really aren't that many numbers left. Intel's current naming actual makes sens...

Right now, totally not liking the predicted price point for the Core i7-2600K. $562 just seems excessive. Here's to hoping it will drop in closer to $340 1Ku same as the i7-875K.

*shrugs* I dunno I think peoples expectation for socket longevity and general upgadeability of the fundamental bits of PCs (read: mobo and CPU) has got out of perspective. +1. We've had pretty great longevity for socket AM2/AM2+/AM3 already. If moving to AM3+ means considerably greater performance ...

Waiting for a price drop which should hopefully happen when the Intel G3's get released. Aiming to get an 80~100GB SSD for $150. A 60GB SSD just feels tiny given I want it to house OS, programs and games along with my Dropbox folder (basically important photos and documents).

If I waited for that, I'd never buy SSD's until all my hard drives have failed or I build a new PC. :P Anyway, I think I'll wait until SSD's drop to ~$1.75/GB. 60GB is just cutting it too close for the things I want it to store (os+programs+games). :)

Thanks for the feedback. I won't necessarily get the Intel G3 when it's released. I'll be reading the reviews and will decide based on those. A concern of mine is the release of Intel's 25nm SSD's might trigger price drops across the board. Right now, a SandForce 60GB SSD costs around $160~170. If t...

OCZ Vertex 60GB vs OCZ Vertex 2 40GB or wait...?

I'm trying to wait patiently for Intel to release their 25nm SSD's but with the recent deals I'm seeing on SSD's, I'm getting more and more tempted to pull the trigger. I can get the OCZ Vertex 60GB for $129 and the OCZ Vertex 2 40GB for $139. My question is, how much better is the Vertex 2? 40GB is...

The complaint (particularly from people who recently bought the X-750) is that their PSU has been obsoleted relatively quickly by "the same model" under a slightly different name. Can a PSU even be obsolete? As long as it works and delivers good, clean power at fairly high efficiency, what's the bi...

true or false: those processors can run stone cold, if you limit the maximum voltage that the cpu runs on, with undervolting/overclocking, turn off turbo boost, etc. true or false: i can use undervolting/overclocking to limit any cpu on that list to 73 watts... and i don't have to give up threading...

Most electronics can withstand higher temps than we can. Most Via stuff tend to be targeted towards industrial applications so I would think that it should easily be able to handle fairly extreme temps (80C, at least).

Passive Radeon HD5450. Big caveat with the mobo, the CPU socket is very close to the PCI Express slot. I think someone mentioned being able to use a Scythe Shuriken in there (barely). The Scythe Big Shuriken blocks the PCIe slot, as I would think many other quiet aftermarket coolers.

Normally, I wouldn't, but I needed a faster GPU for PCSX2 (PS2 emulator) and the ECS was the cheapest I found ($110 w/o rebates). I was looking at the HD 5750 but there weren't any good deals at the time.

I've got a Biostar TH55B HD+Core i7-860+ECS GTS 250 512MB (738MHz)+Antec EA380-D build and system power consumption at idle from the wall is 60W. A Core i3-530 is a less expensive, lower power alternative to the Core 2 Duo E8400. Not to mention being faster than the E8400 in a lot of tasks except for those particularly cache/latency sensitive.
