The platter noise of the WD Green would be audible in that rig. Make sure you invest in a hard drive silencer such as the Nexus Drive-A-Way to minimise the noise. Or, invest in some slow spinning fans that would still be much quieter than the WD Green (eg. Nexus Real Silents @ 5v). This way you coul...

I'm going to keep considering a relatively simply WC solution on the 5770 - maybe a 2x120. I'll need to see how that fits my case, though. (Silverstone Fortress ft02) See this thread for how easy it is to passively cool the 5770 without active air cooling or water cooling. I'm also using an Asus Cu...

Re: I/O shield panels - who uses them?
I use I/O shields because it keeps the rear of the case looking neat and tidy. Nothing more.shleepy wrote:So, do you use I/O shields? If so, why? If not, why?

For the GPU, if you don't mind mounting an aftermarket heatsink, get any GPU that's compatible with the Accelero S1 and you're good to go !! I just installed an Accelero S1 onto a non-reference HD5770 (the Asus CuCore model that MSY sells). It fits with plenty of room to spare, and runs passively j...

Another way of preventing the drive from slipping out of elastic suspension, is to use big thumbscrews such as in this picture.

Re: Suspended HDDs, still have some case vibration
Use some thumbscrews to keep the hard drive/s from falling out. Like this:Deucal wrote:I tightened the elastic so that the HDDs wouldn't easily fall out when I flip the case on the side.

These links should put your mind at rest:
Power consumption (<10W typical, and 15W max)
Performance of a HD5870 in a simulated 1x slot (HD5450 should be affected even less)

so the question is is the s-flex 800rpm model on par with a antec tri fan at low setting or should i get the s-flex 1200 and use a fan controller. S-FLEX 1600RPM + fan controller. Undervolts well, and I'd say it's worth it for the flexibility, especially since it's the same price as the 1200RPM mod...

Well since you can't install hard drives in the top hard drive cage anyway, remove it altogether, and do something like this.
