I have had my SS300 R3 for 2-3 months now and havent heard a peep out of it yet, it sits at 1500rpm all the time and this is in a unmodified Sonata (been to lazy). My first thought would be along the lines of what NeilBlanchard suggested, dust buildup etc.... Have you moved the case recently IE. set...

bomba is correct on many points here. 1- The stock 120mm case fan is insanely loud at 12v, the Seasonics PS have no fan connectors. My solution was to rearrange the fan connector to use the 5v line, noise is tolerable at 5v. 2-"You'll just notice your stock P4 CPU cooler, case fan & video card fan."...

Right about the time I was getting ready to mod my PS a friend calls me up and says that his PS just burned up, so he is now the proud owner of an Antec 380w, har har har. So anyway on to the point, a quick trip down to Microcenter to get a Seasonic Super Silencer 300w Rev 3 brought me to realize ju...

I see your idea, in one side out the other isolating it from the case airflow completely. This setup would'nt work for me though seeing as how my desk has a slot for the tower with only about an inch on each side and would cause problems for anyone placing their case next to anyhting. Perhaps Antec ...

Nice job on the duct there. As far as the front goes, someone put out the idea to use a wire grill from a car speaker and just cut and shape it to match the blank drive bay cover (dont forget the tabs to hold it in place). The only thing that concerns me is that "I took a match to it and it lit righ...

sthayashi, your first post gave the biggest clues. 1.changing cpu fans from L1's to M1's didnt help much. 2.cranking up rear fan to 12v did help. 3.Bluefront's ques of opening side cover did help. 4.removing front cover for pics did help. It would seem that the prob is clearly in not having enough C...

Without actually seeing the holes, my thought would be that the larger ones (the size of the MB mounting screw holes) could possibly be opened, drilling is out of the question! Desoldering is a safer approach because it gives you a chance to repair a possible boo boo. Look at the solder filling the ...

I have given some thought as to desoldering or drilling these pseudo-holes, but I don't want to destroy my motherboard. Has anyone heard any success or failure stories about people putting holes in their MB? Drilling out those holes would probably destroy your board. Those holes are actually connec...

My $.02 would be something like this..... You stated that the problem seems to be restricted to the CPU- case temperature isn't exceeding 30C and that it seems to make little difference whether or not the side panels are on or off. So the first thing to check would be if the cpu hs/fan got dislodged...

Cure? Hah! There is no cure, only the temporary relief from a trip to the parts store for quieter components than the batch you just finished installing. :) Funny you should mention the HVAC (looking over my shoulder giving the evil eye to this rattling vent that is taunting me as I type). Have you ...

Oh ok.... duh I dont know if i will need to do the same, right now the 7000alcu makes more noise than the samsung HD at idle. Once i get an OS on it the seek noise might be a different story though. I'll have to agree with Chylld, the casing would probably hide some noise, but much will still carry through the enclosure to the case if there is no dampening. Also running it with the fan disconnected (noise) might increase temps, especially with it being up top in a 5.25" bay (known for being hot...

I personally havent used one, but by looking at the description of it on their website I think that it would add noise and not quiet your drive. 1. It does not say anything about dampening or isolation so it sounds like it screws in directly which would transfer noise to your case. 2. It talks about...

Cablegami
Something to consider, though I am not sure if it would apply to IDE cables is that with Cat5e,6 any sharp bends or kinks in the cable will result in signal loss etc... My thought would be to leave a small loop at the folds say, big enough to slip a pencil through in contrast to flattening out the f...

You are correct I did imagine a 2 in your post. ...

Glad to see someone else has already done what I am About to do, NB47J on a n-Force2 IGP. Was getting a little worried if it would be OK. I was going to cut a few pins on my HS also till I noticed that the metal pad on the chipset was round. So my thought is to rotate the HS 45° so that the corner i...

Motherboard connections
I just recieved a Shuttle MN31N yersterday and this thing requires the P4 power connection. I don't know if this is an isolated design or if this has become common for AMD boards & I just havent been paying attention.
