Their reasons: 'Due to lack of demand for advanced ‘XL’ models and high levels of competition we will be only supplying a limited range of DVD-RW drives into the European market.'

No dvr-a10xl in Europe!

Asked Pioneer 'If and when will we see the dvr-a10xl DVD writer in the UK?'.

Their reply: 'There aren't any plans to sell this product in Europe.'

External drive enclosure

Planning to move my backup drive from inside to outside my machine. Most etailers here stock Akasa and IcyBox. These okay? Are there other brands I should be looking at?

Thanks

I tried to get one a couple of months after they were released but everywhere had sold out here in the UK. What sites had had it? I'd like to keep a lookout in future. Thanks Derek Unfortunately, I don't remember which ones exactly! I'm pretty sure that Novatech and Overclockers both sold them at o...

Paste is much less efficient than metal. It would really be better to disassemble the cooler and reseat it to get better contact.

Are you sure you put that Zalman on correctly? On my unlocked and overclocked X800 the VF700-Cu @ 5v cut the load temp from 83 to 69 C.

Same here. What's so special about Australia, is it just closer to the Asian plants?

CPU cooler now less efficient

I replaced the stock cooler on my Athlon 64 3400+ (Clawhammer) with a XP-120/Nexus combo about a year ago. Then CPU temp peaked at 47 C (room temp 21 C). Now it is 59 C (room temp 20 C). Don't have case temps, but NB and HDs are cooler now than then - opened up the grills and did some cable tidying ...

Thanks for the replies.

iuppone, you're suggesting it's the drive rather than the program. Anyone confirm that this or other drives can have their spin down reduced at startup by DriveSpeed?

Thanks

DVD spin down reduction

DriveSpeed 3.01 is not reducing the spin down time of my NEC 3500AG when I reboot. I have Restore speed setting at startup selected.

Assuming this is its expected behaviour, is there a free program that will set the spin down time at startup?

Thanks

Just done mine that way. Temps, in front of an open but fanless intake, are excellent: currently 29 and 30 C, in a room ~19C.

Expecting too much from suspension?

Just got around to suspending my hard drives - bought the cord a mere six months ago! Using a similar setup to burcakb: http://forums.silentpcreview.com/viewtopic.php?t=17474 The drives - a pair of 200GB Samsung P120Ss - are quieter than before, but are still audible when seeking. The case is ~67 cm...

VF700 accidentally run passively

Noticed my X800 Pro was running much hotter than usual: temps up to 64C idle. Suspected I hadn’t properly reconnected the fan’s power connector when I’d reinstalled the card a couple of days ago. Upon opening the machine, I found one of the SATA cables had got stuck in the heatsink and prevented the...

I was limited for space on the rear of my X800, that's why I went for the Zalman VF700. It's available already installed if you don't want to mod the card yourself: http://www.sapphiretech.com/vga/x800-xlult.asp

Drive Image 2002 Strangeness

I recently replaced my PATA WD800JBs with SATA SP2004s for reduced noise. Now DI 2002 refuses to start. Symantec says this error can be caused by removable media - http://tinyurl.com/ar6fa . I wonder whether the hot swapping capability of my SATA drives is responsible? The strange thing is that I us...

Thanks the the reply Ralf, I'll go for the 5mm.

However looking at the flanges of the fan I was planning to use them on - the stock fan from the SLK3700AMB - I am wondering whether or not I should have bought the FM35 with the deeper hole? http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_2403.html

Isolators - me or the hole?

Bought the FM44s - http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_2404.html

I know Ralf recommends 3/16ths holes, but here we're - mostly - metric, and I used a 4mm drill. I can't get the isolators through the case. Have I just not tried harder enough or do you think I should go to 5mm?

Thanks
