Re: Recommended HTPC/NAS case? (>=2 hdd bays, pico powered)

If you have problems finding a vendor that sells the Apex case you could look for Spire SPM210B or Thermaltake Element Q - same case sold with different names.

Re: Sandy Bridge, Part 2: Intel DH67BL & Asus P8H67-M EVO

This is a pretty stupid question but I've not seen the answer anywhere yet, possibly due to my limited attention span: Do these new motherboards have the same heatsink mounting holes as LGA1156 boards? Yes, they have: Despite developing a new socket, Intel took pity on end-users by not changing the...

Ah, nice find! I had forgotten that Scythe were going to release a follow up to the first Setsugen (a cooler which was a disappointment IMO). Here's a review in English, there are some non-english reviews at the product page.

Re: fanless products

I suppose you mean heatpipe-cases where the case itself acts as a heatsink? If so, have a look at the TNN cases from Zalman, such as this one. They list them under "Old Products" though so those cases might not be available anymore.

Fractal Design Define Mini

Fractal Design has a new case out, the Define Mini. It's a smaller version of the Define R2/R3, a case that I didn't really like personally, but as it's not that many good options to choose from when it comes to microATX-cases I think this new case is a lot more interesting.

From the looks of it, the card was tested with the VRM heatsink from an Arctic Cooling product... http://www.silentpcreview.com/files/images/tr-shaman/12.jpg That's the factory-mounted VRM heatsink on the HIS 5870 Turbo , used as test card. It might be made by Arctic Cooling, they used to make the ...

Re: Recommendations for a NAS Case and Power Supply

I suppose you're looking for a mini-ITX case? If so, there's basically just two cases to choose between if 6 HDD bays is a requirement, the Lian Li PC-Q08 and the Array R2 from Fractal Design.

Edit: Btw, if you have not done so already I'd suggest you read the Silent Home Server Build Guide.

Here's two cases made by Fractal Design that might be of interest to you: Define R3 and Define XL. The latter are compartmentalized and both are plain looking.

I've heard that aluminium cases are better as they act as a heatsink. " The Aluminum Myth - Some favor aluminum cases, citing an ability to better cool components mounted within. This is a myth. No heat producing component benefit in any significant way from being inside an aluminum case — unless t...

Re: Going from HD/Vista to SSD/Win 7 - Thoughts?

Concerns - Going to SSD I've seen some recommendations that do not seem to make sense: 1. No paging file on the SSD. What? First off I am still limited memory wise to 4GB (3 visible) in 32 bit, I certainly do not want any further constraints (low memory messages and slowdows). 2. Given the 2 stage ...

Me too. Quite a difference, it feels as if someone suddenly changed the monitor resolution from non-native back to native and cleaned the screen.

Re: Ooooooh, shiny new forum!

I think the index pages are quite ok but the overall contrast in threads is too low. There is not enough separation between posts for example. With the previous style the different layout elements was better distinguished from each other, in the current style it's just faint colors and vague borders.

The OS will see the drive as having 512B sectors - that's the emulation mentioned in the Samsung specs.

The jumper, I assume, is a workaround to the problem that partitions will be misaligned if you use a windows OS older than Vista. At least that's what the jumper do on 4K sector drives from WD.

The first G3 drives will be out sometime during the fourth quarter of this year. There will be two G3 X25-V drives; one 80GB, as you wrote, and one 40GB. At least according to the most recently "leaked" roadmap (below), but things might of course change in the coming months. http://www.storagereview...
