When the x1900xt compatibility revision becomes available I plan on testing with the stock fan, an SPCR standard Panaflow L1A, and "passive" with a 120mm Scythe S-Flex blowing down on it from the bottom of a Scythe SCNJ-1000. Sorry I didn't post my decision to wait on the test in this thread. I did ...

It's good to hear that the VF700 works well on the x1800xl AIW, however the x1800 and x1900 xt and xtx draw substantially more power. ...around 50w, if this article is correct. Thanks, Slaugh. So yeah, a VF700 Cu at 12v may be a good short-term solution until better options arrive. Food for thought ...

Im switching it out for a new 1900xtx at frys today. I was using the Zalman VF700 AlCu with 2 year old AS Ceramique. Im gonna buy a VF700 and some AS 5 today at Frys while Im there. Do you think the 700Cu and AS 5 will make a difference over the 700AlCu and old AS Ceramique compound? 1. Old TIM is ...

I purchased a X1900XTX Yest and a Zalman VF700 AlCu for it as well. My load temps in BF2 are 110C wtf? I know its too hot cause the screen starts doing weird stuff at those temps. Ive installed abunch of these zalman vga coolers before. You say Zalman has extended support to the 1900 series. Am I d...

The thing that really caught my eye with the x1k series is the ability to use the two-way bandwidth advantage of PCI-E to do things other than graphics with spare clock cyles. For example, I heard of a demonstration where they used an x1800xt to simultaneously render a moving ocean scene in real-tim...

x1900xt, neither cool nor quiet in stock trim
I can confirm that the x1900xt card is both unbelievably fast and unbelievably hot and noisy. However, Zalman has already extended support to the new x1900 cards for their excellent VF700 series coolers, and Thermalright will be releasing a compatible version of their V-1 Ultra in a few weeks, accor...

"just warriorpoet" here :) I've had the cooler now for about 3.5 months (NV Silencer 5 Rev.3) and it has yet to produce any sort of odd noise. However, given the ovewhelmingly negative response to AC Silencer fan noise in the Rev. 1 and 2 models caution is appropriate. How many others here have the ...

AFAIK the CPU never played a major role on the result (3DMarks). The biggest CPU-bound differences are observed with changes in chip architechture (i.e. # of cores, amt. of cache, Intel/AMD, etc.) due to driver efficiencies with different chips and newer cards. Although a few extra marks can be bou...

If it's a bottleneck for the X1900 then it's also a bottleneck for the other cards  Yup, just more of a bottleneck for a more capable card, including the GTX 512; I have no preference. Reference also the other part of that statement, the part about significant gains being shown with dual-core...

Note that results were obtained using an Athlon64 3500+ (bottleneck, considerable gains have been shown through use of a dual-core proc), 1Gb DDR (bottleneck) and Cat. 5.13 drivers which do not officially support the x1900 series. I look forward to testing with a 2.6GHz DC, 2Gb DDR and Cat. 6.2 driv...

You said you removed the RAM thermal pads on the NV 5.3, did you use any thermal paste to apply them to the chips or just firmly affixed them? Back from another month under the hood of my PC, now housed in a sleek new P180 (merry Christmas to me...). Heatpipe NB coolers
I know I saw a post about custom aftermarket heatpipe NB cooling, and wondered if anyone can help point the way. Unfortunately my ABit AN8 Ultra cooler is no longer cutting it (I'm running my Opty 170 @2.8 GHz, wonder why the NB can't handle the heat... )

Re: Thermalright SI-120 and ASUS A8N32 ok???
As the official Thermalright website suggest that there might be a tit fit for the XP-120 version on the A8N32 I become willing to accept that I have to shell out a lot more the SI-120 as a package solution, which included a thermal controlled papst fan from a special vendor. The SI-120 comes witho...

How much is gained by moving the heat a couple of centimeters to blow it away through rads instead of a Scythe? I think it basically depends on how big the rads are. Quiet Water Cooling Concept
I'm starting this thread as an outgrowth of my earlier one: "Talk Me Out of It", as that has run its course further down a rabbit trail than is prudent. The Idea The concept is to use the 2x exhaust fan locations at the rear of the case to produce enough negative pressure to pull cool air (dark blue...

...get active fan control for all fans and let Nexus exhaust fans spin under 200 rpm most of the time. I second Rusty and MikeC. I have active fan control throguh uGuru, but it's certrainly not that radical. 200 rpm is virually zero airflow. At the very least, my mobo needs the air. That won't be v...
