Since this is a pretty decent thread, I'm going to delete the series of baby-ish posts with no on-topic content. Hopefully the two posters will continue their little pissy-fest via PM. Please note that I have no clue as to what the "baby-ish posts" were or who the posters were. But in my opinion th...

Re: be quiet! Dark Rock 2 Tower Heatsink
If I were to hazard a guess, I would think that as "excess" pressure is vented from the slits, there is less back pressure building up to resist the movement of the airflow, provided that the fan creates sufficient force to push the air along. This got me thinking of muzzle brakes you see on guns, ...

HD : Kingston SV200S3N/256G solid state drive http://www.kingston.com/us/ssd/v/ This is in addition to old, big and quiet HDD - hoping for smoother and faster performance, perhaps I'll eventually migrate completely to solid state. I recommend that you get an Intel brand SSD. Here is why: http://www...

Seriously, "this cooler needs you to be very close to it to be able to hear it at all and I mean like your whole head in the case close"... Wow, such detailed and well written review. They think it's important enough to talk about how "The cooler ships with a protective cover on the core" (the core...

Re: Double-check - Seasonic Fanless 460W enough for my syste
Do you think the 460w will run the system comfortably ? Yes, but do yourself a favor. Get one of the "fan-less" Seasonics that come with a fan that only turns on when it is stressed. They don't kick in until you hit 200 watts. While in theory your setup could hit up to 350W. It will only do that if...

Re: Megahalems + i7-3770 Temperatures
1. That is higher than I would like. But it is tolerable if your regular day to day, non-benchmark temps are reasonable. What temp does it usually run when you are not stressing it. 2. 650rpm is pretty slow, why not add a second fan. In fact why not try two Nexus 120mm fans, 3. Try reseating the coo...

Re: Pulling My Hair Out-Cooler Choices
I do casual gaming and even Skyrim on high graphics gets toasty with 3 120s. If you know you are going to have a serious heat problem, and price is no object. 1. Start by feeding fresh cold external air directly to your CPU cooler. That is good for 10 to 15C right there. 2. You can do this with a f...

Re: be quiet! Dark Rock 2 Tower Heatsink
I expect this HS will still not be a top performer, even with an ideal base, because the fin spacing is too tight for a moderate speed fan that likely doesn't have high enough pressure to push the air all the way through the thick fin stack. The Mugen is a fairly large and square heatsink. 1. The D...

Though I am not so certain how easy it is to remove such foam once you have applied it.

Re: Pulling My Hair Out-Cooler Choices
If it would have fitted in my case I would have got a massive twin tower cooler like NH-D14 or Silver Arrow. Interestingly, Frostytech rates the NH-C14 as a better performer than the NH-D14 (opposite of how SPCR ranks them) I would submit that there is such variance between different sites reviews,...

Re: Pulling My Hair Out-Cooler Choices
There is no need to use a 140mm fan in order to cool your cpu quiet. You could easily use a good 120mm model, even Hyper 212 + Nexus fan would be completly sufficient at no oc. Agreed. Even with overclocking, 120mm does a better job of meeting suchageek's needs. 140mm fans seem like a good idea, bu...

Get two of these, and bolt them onto the two gratings: http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=36_463_947&products_id=30036 But in between the filter and the grating, place some black plastic or paper that you have cut out into a 120mm circle. You don't need all that cooling muscle. Take a look at Noctua NH-U12P http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835608014&Tpk=NH-U12P When the next chip mount comes along you can get a free upgrade from Noctua. 10,000 rpm SSD Hybrid Velociraptor killer?
Seagates 2nd generation Hybrid drive was fairly good. Looks like they are planning a real Velociraptor killer version for their third generation. It is a 10,000 rpm, 7mm thick, model that incorporates SLM SSD memory. "In the fall, we will be introducing our third-generation client hybrid drives, whi...

Which is better for the Venomous-X, Noctua NF-F12 PWM or Scythe Slip Stream 120 PWM (SY1225SL12LM-P)? You are going to have to experiment. It is highly likely that the Scythe Slip Stream will be quieter. The Noctua NF-F12 PWM mostly will cool better, and do so at a lower rpm, in a heat sink situati...

I've just installed a Slipstream 800, and my first impressions are that it's MUCH quieter than the Real Silent. Pity about the ugly leads though  I have the Real Silent running on my CPU heatsink at 35%+Speedfan, and the Slipstream as an exhaust running off the R3 fan controller (on 100%), a...

When I look at the system power draw people have reported, it looks like < 40W at idle and < 80W for a movie. Yes, it will go much higher if I run futuremark or Prime95 on it, but I won't be running it that hard. Sometimes you can have a runaway process that will cook your CPU without you being awa...
