I've grown very fond of your modding, wish I had more time myself. Same here, now that schools back on, time is very limited. So just how quiet is it? I can't say just yet, I've still to install my fan controller (running loud atm on Gigabyte's smart fan control), whenever I get the time that is......

Re: Questions about the case modifications
The MDF is attached using long screws that screw into the holes that originally held the grill to the bezel. It is offset along the screw's length, I didn't screw it all the way down. The U channel lining is door edge trim (I got at Canadian Tire), used on the edge of car doors. I used it to line th...

Antec 302-S Project
My recent summer project I tried to see how much I could silence a good case like the Antec 300 by doing a few small mods to it. Mods Weight dampened panels Front noise muffle Painted interior and front panel flat black Flipped PSU w/ bottom intake & lifted case feet Undervolt and softmount 140mm fa...

For the same price, get an Antec 300, paint it white and turn it on its side IMO.

AMD FTW :D . AMD X2 245 + Asus 785G board & 2GB RAM will give you the best performance increase for ~$153. You can always add in a 5670 if the games are too slow on the 785G or when the cash rolls in later. Remember you can't reuse a non-ATX Dell PSU and case with a new motherboard. The old 100GB ID...

Well... I guess Antec 300 wins then. Everybody's suggesting it. :P The power button on it seems to blend in as well, so maybe that will deter the little fingers. Better yet, route the power button to the back of the computer (or out to some remote location on your desk), and stealth the DVD drive. ...

Re: Can anyone recommend a budget (cheap) silent case?
My current case is something I fished out of a corporate dumpster 7 years ago. It was for free, and it has served me well over the years, but I'm starting to feel that it's not up to the task anymore. I recently upgraded the innards of the computer, and the modern components are getting bigger and ...

I second Trav1s 's suggestions on quieting down your Dell. However looking at XPS8100 pictures online, that Dell case seems a bit cramped to effectively cool and quiet your computer's components. Your final attempt at silencing this PC would be ultimately replacing the case (unless you think the Del...

Are you up for any case modding? My pick is the CM 341, with a (modded) floor HD mount. Also add weight to the side panels (dampening stuff, or peel and stick tiles etc), block up the side holes, and remove fan grills. Remove the original floor mount for the HD by drilling through the rivets, remove...

Anyone have ideas about how to securely attach a 3.5" HD in a case without rubber grommets? You mean hard drive suspension? Or hard mounted? With only one HD, I think you could easily rig up some quiet mounting in the CM341. That's a pretty good way of doing it, most of the others I've seen are jus...

Re: Frozencpu sound dampening
Too me, most PC dampening kits are a waste of money, home brew solutions are cheaper and perhaps more effective. I just stuck 2 thick peel-and-stick tiles ($1.33 each) on my Antec 300's thin panels and the result is amazing! The panel weighs 2-3 times heaver, and a knock on the side panel sounds lik...

Nice build, and nice cuts for a nibbler! I'd bet you could probably run the accelero passive given that hot air rises straight up. I wouldn't like the idea of having open holes at the top of the case for *stuff* to fall through onto the graphics card though. Maybe if you added a spoiler, baffle or s...

Nice job speedkar9. I have never seen renderings for the 300 before. Thanks Bill. To preserve the clean flush look of the 300's front, I am looking to make an internal front muffle for this case. This means the sound card will be jammed right up against the (dual slot) graphics card. Yikes!~El~Jefe~ wrote: I figure I never really ever used the additional slots for a main gaming + audio editing computer. One sound card, one 5770 ATI card.

Antec Sonata III Silent Super Midi Tower Case (500W PSU) - Black £64.99 Stay away... its not a "silent case" as Antec markets it. Airflow is serverly limited by its perpendicular hard drive bays, and its small size affects acceptable graphic card lengths (for future upgrades). I second the SOLO in...

80mm fan in the suspension bands, awesomely creative Actually its a 92mm. You could try stuffing a 120mm against the drive cage and zip tying it on somehow. An Accelero S1 is perhaps the best passive cooler out there, your better off purchasing the cooler & card separately (unless theres a combo fr...

Try ripping off the Turbo module and run a slow 92/120mm fan in front of it (in the drive bays?), like I did here.Flanker wrote:time to deal with the graphics card HSF

Re: Antec 300 + 140 MM Fan recommendation
Working on a 300 build atm... I plan on undervolting the tri-cool first to see if it will be quiet enough for me. If not, Ill fab my own 140-120mm bracket and stick a 120mm fan up there. Using a duct/ chimney on the top will help reduce the user-perceived noise from the top of the case. Whatever fan...

... that has a large rear-mounted fan BELOW the video card. Heat rises, so it shouldn't be above the video card? A fan blowing perpendicular thru the back of the card (in the HD bays or something) should suffice, as with my 4850 w/S1. Oh yeah, I am open to some case modding. Get a top PSU mid/full ...

For me it smells like petroleum but I might be wrong... Is that thing made with " petroleum tar "? (that on wikipedia says is considered toxic and carcinogenic) What do you think?
