There are 3.5" HDDs that are less noisy then the latest Seagates though. The latest from Samsung and Western Digital seems to be the best 3.5" today when it comes to low noise. Check out Recommended Hard Drives . Aris: To bad they are still relatively slow and expensive compared to the 3.5" ones. I ...

I think Windows would be unsuitable to run from a solid state storage devices not just because the swap and log file. I find that Windows often access the system disk for any number of strange reasons. About the programs from CenaTek, why don't you like them? I myself use RamdiskNT and think it's ok...

I love my Raptor 74GB, but like the_smell says the benefits while ingame is negligible. Loading times may be a little bit shorter perhaps. What I love about my Raptor is the fast seeks, makes everything load a little bit faster. And perhaps the biggest benefit is having a separate HDD just for OS, a...

The reason for not one but two molex connectors is safety only (as far as I know). Two paths for the power means half the resistance. You don't want that cable to get to hot. :) Not that it's likely to happen with a non overklocked 7800GT, but still. That the PSU has one or two +12V rails has nothin...

AS Adhesive will work fine. You might want to try a mix of 50/50 with AS Adhesive and AS3 (will probably work with AS5 as well, anyone knows for sure?) to create a slighly weaker bond. That way you can remove the heatsink later if you would want to. With 100% AS Adhesive you will probably not be abl...

Thanks goban ! Nice to see I'm not alone. :) I've placed an order for my Gainward 7950GT . It will take a while until it arrives but I think the voltage regulator used on the card is the Intersil ISL6568 ( data sheet ). There are a few interesting tables in the PDF listing voltage identification cod...

According to Xbitlabs, the 7600GT runs just below 36W.

The 7600GS with the lower voltage, usually ~1.1v compared to 1.3v for the 7600GT, runs even cooler than that.

7950GT at low voltage?
Ok, first to explain my situation. Not that important really, skip it if you like. I'm thinking about buying a new graphics card. Right now I'm using a passive 7600GS (with DDR2) but I would like something a little bit faster. Money isn't a problem really, what I'm looking for is a card that will gi...

The sad thing with 7800GTX is that not long after its arrival the 7900GT came and was faster, cooler and cheaper due to the smaller manufacturing process (90nm vs 110nm). For me to get a 7800GTX it has to be very cheap since I would know that I wouldn't get quite the performance of a more recent car...

I don't think you should trust uguru. "If i set crystal to 1.025 for my lowest power state, uguru shows the voltage as being 1.6-7 , and all the other programs just show it as 1.025v.." That's a very high number. If it was correct I think you would know it. It would probably show on your CPU temp an...

I think the power consumption of the 7600GS and the 7300GT are very similar. Take a look at this thread by smilingcrow for example. According to his tests the 7600GS and the 7300LE draws the same at idle. I don't know the voltage of the GPU on the 7300-cards, but I think it's not much lower than on ...

The problem with the 7300GT DDR3 is that they are pretty expensive, at least here in Sweden. Best price for the Inno3D 7300GT 256MB DDR3 PCIe is 1143 SEK and the Gainward 7600GS 256MB DDR3 PCIe is 1199 SEK. My Leadtek 7600GS 256MB DDR2 PCIe was 950 SEK and came with a stock passive cooler. (Prices i...

I assume you mean this Xbitlabs article? - http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/video/display/power-noise_6.html The "7600GS" tested is a underclocked 7600GT. Is the 7950GT much hotter than the 7900GT? I had no problem cooling my 7900GT with a passive cooler (Be Quiet! Polar Freezer) during the summer. The only fans (beside the PSU fan) in my system was two Adda 120mm @ ~450RPM in the back and top of my P180, both sucking air out of the case. I don't reme...

Check out your link there, Chocolinx. :) FireGL are the workstation line of ATis graphics cards (nVidia has the Quadro line). The 7900GT is pretty cool and VF900 is a very effective cooler. I'd say your temps are low but hardly impossible. My 7900GT idled at ~50C and maxed in the low 60s. And that with a passive cooler. At what voltage do you run the fan on your VF900? You should be able to cool a 7900GT enough with the fa...

I recently went from a 7900GT to a 7600GS and couldn't be more happy. But I don't play that much anymore and when I do it's mostly older games like Q3A. The reason I downgraded was the money I made by switching and the lower power consumption of the 7600GS. The 6800GT has more than double the memory...

No, it won't be 100% heat, because in transforming energy from one form to another (electrical to thermal) there are always conversion losses. There is no conversion process that is 100% efficient (second law of thermodynamics). No conversion process that is 100% efficient, that is correct. There a...
