If your system can’t handle an extra 10 to 20W GPU power consumption at idle without becoming too noisy it’s not really an SPCR class PC in the first place. From what I’ve seen even the stock coolers won’t be affected by the extra power consumption with regard to fan noise. Yes, but if I al...

Check the datasheets from Intel for the CPU. In those you will find a description of the pins and a table with the Vcore values. You can then use this information to see what pins to connect. You will be limited to a few options unless you can somehow isolate some of the pins. But that is usually no...

What kind of system are you building? What kind of case will you be using?

Hard to recommend a HS(F) with only the CPU and mobo given, the rest unknown. But the Ninja is always nice, my favorite heatsink right now and one of the best with low airflow.

Why would you buy a 3870 if not for gaming? What do you mean? I bought my 3870 for gaming, but the system is not used mainly for that. When I just download something, listen to music, watch a movie or whatever, it's nice if the graphics card don't consume more power than it has to. Same with the re...

Cool'n'Quiet (CnQ) has nothing directly to do with fan speed. The only connection is that CnQ often makes the CPU run cooler and that in combination with a temperature controlled fan can cause the fan to slow down a bit. I'm sorry I can't help you with the Q-fan settings. I have no experience with M...

I'm not saying it's never important. My point is that even if 9600GT is ~60W while HD3870 is ~80W at full load, HD3870 is still a more efficient card thanks to its lower draw at idle. For most systems; not a system used 100% for gaming for example. Sure that extra 20W demands more of the PSU but cho...

Like lm, I find the numbers less than impressive. Anything with an idle power consumption higher than the HD3870/HD3850 feels old today. Power consumption at load is not that important really, as long as it is low enough to enable passive cooling. Core2 changed all that for the CPU thank god I would...

I have one of these - http://www.chieftec.com/snt3141.html I have removed the 80mm fan and I am very pleased with the backplane. The only drawback is crappy hotswap support on ICH9R but that is all Intels fault. :( There is also a smaller version for 3 HDDs. I don't see a need for a key locking mech...

Connect PS_ON to ground. I usually use a paperclip or something but I'm not sure I would recommend that on a brand new PSU if you don't know what you're doing. ;)

Have you considered the HD3850? Here in Sweden the fanless MSI 8600GTS cost about the same as the cheapest among the HD3850. Add a few bucks for a S1 and you have a fanless card with a lower power draw (in idle at least) and much better performance. Nvidias whole 8600 line was a failure imho. Not en...

Mine doesn't boot into WinXP at 1.05v. :(
1.10v seems stable though (done some Prime95 and QuickPAR testing).

Can I trust CPU-Z v1.43 btw? Voltage is set at 1.1v in the BIOS, but CPU-Z reports 1.072v.
