I don't think you'll need a full year. The Kingston 40GB SSD based on the Intel controller is at the $100 mark and I expect it to be outshone by something way better in the next 4 - 6 months. No problem with mine. Had it for quite some time... and temp has very rarely been above 40C

Got myself a F2 1tB drive. Missed the fact that they also existed in 1.5tb size.. oh well. But from what I can tell just by listening. The F2 is quieter than WD 640 GP and certainly a lot quieter than the WD 640 Blue (which I'm going to sell) The F2 is the first drive I don't feel the need to quiete...

So far I haven't heard a quiet 7200rpm drive. But place it in a soft mounted quiet drive and the whole thing changes.

Was thinking about placing the a Samsung hdd inside a Scythe himuri which would cover the smallest hole. Is there any risk of doing so? First I would try to remove the Zalman fan and place a 120mm (or even 140) fan on top of it instead. Just use zip ties... the airflow covers a larger surface area and should cool better and do the job more quietly. 800rpm might be enough, but higher RPM fan might be needed. Bear in mind that programs like prime95 put a heavy stress on the system which is unlikely to be matched even closely by real usage.

My CPU hits about 70C with prime95. But I have never seen it go over 62C when encoding or gaming.
