Well, it works well so I cannot complain. There probably is no VGA cooler which is as good as AC S1.

Arctic Cooling S1 rev B is possible on a 5750 with a bit of modding. XTX 5750 512MB: http://img690.imageshack.us/gal.php?g=acs1anotherangle.jpg Warning! This is what some people call ghetto-modding :) Currently using a Slipstream running at 800rpm to cool it down. Hasn't so far exceeded 40C in full-...

I had a Seasonic 500w PSU a few years back which had some buzzing problems. It was almost 100% solved by a Silverstone PSU-cover:

Windows plus a couple of games on a SSD just to save a few seconds here and there?

Again, it's not worth the money. I'd rather buy another 1tB harddrive for future needs.

... Yep. Enough for a few extra mp3s, oggs, etc. By that time, Windows will require a 500GB partition just on its own, so you'll be pushing it further back and waiting for a 2TB SSD for the same price. Seriously, why do people need so much space for their system partition? I'm sure there are plenty...

I don't think you'll need a full year. The Kingston 40GB SSD based on the Intel controller is at the $100 mark and I expect it to be outshone by something way better in the next 4 - 6 months. It's still far too much money for so little space. It would fit Windows 7 plus some programs and not so muc...

I will wait at least one year for SSD to have a better price:performance ratio, they're simply too expensive and offer too little space.

For now, one 5400rpm and one 5900rpm both 1tb placed in softmounted quietdrives is pretty much non-problematic at least from the silence perspective.

It's worth noting that the 1.5 TB Barracuda LP still uses 4 platters and has the same noise profile as the 2TB Barracuda LP. http://www.seagate.com/staticfiles/support/disc/manuals/desktop/Barracuda%20LP/100564361c.pdf The 1 TB Barracuda LP is a much better compromise on power and noise as it uses ...

Benefits of a second drive.. Use it as a download disk, or to stream music from...this frees up the primare harddrive for surfing or something else, making it more responsive. Also, if you code for example wave to mp3 its good to have a source and destination which are not on the same harddrive. Spe...

Samsung hdds "do not cover any drive holes"

Was thinking about placing the a Samsung hdd inside a Scythe himuri which would cover the smallest hole. Is there any risk of doing so? The two other holes will not be covered but obviously the hdd will have restricted air access... Should I replace the hdd with another brand? Edit: Hmm, doesn't see...

First I would try to remove the Zalman fan and place a 120mm (or even 140) fan on top of it instead. Just use zip ties... the airflow covers a larger surface area and should cool better and do the job more quietly. 800rpm might be enough, but higher RPM fan might be needed. If the card does not have...

Bear in mind that programs like prime95 put a heavy stress on the system which is unlikely to be matched even closely by real usage.

My CPU hits about 70C with prime95. But I have never seen it go over 62C when encoding or gaming.

Encouraged by your question, I thought I would edit the BIOS to set a low, known to work, memory frequency, and raise the memory speed to another known to work quantity only when doing 3D. Which setting did you change? I guess it wasn't 00, the white one? http://www.silentpcreview.com/files/images/...
