Too much text to read. So I'll sum up my PowerColor ATI HD4830 512MB GDDR3. Modded bios, have not changed voltages: 160/200 2d mode. Gives idle temp about 30C. O/C to 700/900 (ie nothing on memory). Temp about 60C Use a AC S1 rev 2 with 1x Scythe Slipstream 800rpm. I get artifacts with 600rpm fan. 2...

Yes, it does indeed help with the idle noise. The problem is that these Quiet Drivers are so big so they're difficult to place in many computer cases.
I have now three of them, but could max use 6...but that might be difficult.

My 6400AAKS is now at 36C in a Quiet Drive in the lower chamber of a modified p182 sitting on foam. I've never seen it go above 40C...but that might happen during the summer...in that case I'll use a slow fan to cool it below 40C

There are studies on what is best to stop terrorism. To quote a recent Rand Corporation study: A new study from the RAND Corporation examined how 648 terror groups around the world ended between 1968 and 2006. It found that by far the most common way for them to disappear was to be absorbed by the p...

I think suspending drivers might be better since it can separate it from other vibrations in the case.

When my optical drive spins a disc very rapidly it creates tons of vibration which I doubt is good for harddrives.

Mine certainly does. And its probably not needed for the GPU but both the RAM and the VRM get too hot without any airflow. This was the same with my 3870. I would at least recommend a 500rpm Scythe Slip Stream with the S1.

I have the Toxic and simply changed the noisy Zalman cooler to a S1 + Scythe Slipstream 120mm 800rpm fan. A small update from me too. RE: coil whine.

Seems the fault lay on the Zalman 850w unit which whined when loading harddrives heavily. I replaced it and after that the Sapphire HD4850 stopped whining as well. It is now as quiet as my old and now sold Gecube 3870.

I have both the 640GB AAKS and AACS and the latter has by far lower idle noise level. And its true that read/writes are loud but I have solved that by placing my drives in softmounted quietdrives.

The card doesn't seem to downclock the RAM at all when in 2d mode. It always runs at 1100Mhz according to CCC. Lots of energy wasted I think.

I have the toxic plus rev 1 Accelero S1 and I can confirm that it works. I had to slightly bend the cooler so that it did not have contact with the VRM.

The RAM seems to be running at 1100Mhz (x2) all the time. So that seems to be the only downside of this card.

I think I may have the park noise with my 640GB GP. Neither of the two WD 640GB "blue" drives makes this noise and neither does my sisters WD 500GB GP.

I may have to sell this one and purchase a faster drive without the park noise and place it in a softmounted quietdrive.

Need to be soft mounted without a doubt, which can be quite tricky in many cases if not even impossible. Does wonders to the idle sound but changes read and write to something thicker and not quite muted enough.
