Just an update. Bought the basic Core Duo Mini last month and replaced the 512MB of RAM with two 1GB sticks for $89 thru zipzoomfly. Overkill on the memory - but it was just so darn cheap. :D Bought a Samsung 205BW 20" to go with it - was on sale for $200 and found out that you need to add a 3rd par...

For gaming: 1. Avoid Vista. Buy a copy of Win XP with a "free" upgrade to Vista sometime in the distant future. 2. Why not get an e6420 and overclock it? Save $40 on the e6600. Heck, I'm happy with my 50% overclocked e4300 - save $110. 3. I've got an XFX8800 GTS 320MB. Works great for 1600 x 1050 re...

1600 x 1200 is the gaming sweet spot for the 320MB version of the 8800GTS. There and below - no benefit to getting a 640MB version. Above this resolution, the 640MB version pulls ahead on performance. In any case, there are a lot of gpu comparison reviews out there.

Core 2 Mac Mini and OS X - how much RAM does it need?

I'm going to be replacing my mom's dead iMac with a Mini and was wondering how much RAM the thing really needs to keep it from disk thrashing...I'm guessing the 512MB shared memory it comes with is enough for single tasks, but maybe a little low for multi-tasking/high graphic use? Looking for feedba...

e4300 is the way to go. Easy overclock for e6600-like performance.

For most cases, your 8600GTS will be the limiter in games...not the cpu. Then again, sorta depends on the type of games you play and at what resolution.

How to stop Adobe Reader 8 from phoning home?

In previous versions of Reader, there has been a way to turn off automatic updates...I can't seem to find that in Reader 8. Anyone solve this issue?

My current workaround is to deny Reader access to the internet....but that's an inelegant solution.

What's also interesting is the break-even point between flying or driving to a destination - your car must get at least 46mpg to have an equal/smaller footprint than taking a plane.

Are you are looking at CPU-Z while the cpu is "idling"?

300*6 = 1800
300*9 = 2700.

Just run something in the background (a game, prime95,...) that uses up cpu cycles and then look at CPU-Z.

If your talking about people living in 1 20k town and working in another 20k town 50km+ away then thats there stupidity. They should either move closer to work or find work closer to where they live. That's a tad simplistic. - Sometimes you love where you live and there just aren't good jobs nearby...
