I'll second what aphonos wrote. You can indeed enable AAM on the SATA Barracuda V. I've done it using the Hitachi Feature tool that he mentioned. And as far as availability of the 120GB Barracuda V SATAs, I don't know where you live but Fry's Electronics has the retail boxed version (comes safely p...

Seagate Cuda V vs. 7200.7 Significant differences in noise?
I'm considering buying the newer 7200.7 ST3120026A 120GB /w 8MB Cache. Silicon Acoustics seems to be the only one carrying the older Cuda V ST3120024A 120GB /w 8MB Cache. But at $170, OUCH! Is the newer 7200.7 louder or quieter? I've noticed that the 7200.7 series no longer has the "Sea-shield". -Ed

Well, since you have a grand to spend, How about a Hush PC? It will aesthetically match your HT components better. It also has a single PCI slot you could possibly use that sound card in. As always check the measurements so it will all fit. Not to mention that it will be dead quiet. I really think a...

I bought the $35 "special" Verax out of curiousity. It is really quiet, but has a kind of annoying high pitched noise from the fan motor itself. Probably won't be noticeable when used as a CPU fan, but probably would be annoying if several are used as case fans. It has almost no air turbulence noise...

Re: SilentPC Pro
What do you guys think of the SilentPC Pro Series case by Fujitsu-Siemens? I would, at the least, remove the Q-Tech power supply from it. I also found an interesting website, http://www.muffledcomputing.com, that sells fan mufflers and foam kits offering from 5-15dBA reductions in sound. LOL "Weste...

I have two 120GB WD1200JB's in RAID 1. They are quite a bit louder. But their speed can't be denied. Especially with the write speed penalty I get with RAID 1. I have a 80GB WD800JB, and that is one loud sucker. It has an almost raspy, grindy noise. Very annoying. I'm thinking of using a Smart Drive...

Pics of my Zalman ZM80 install
Dear lord this thing is huuuuuge! I was really worried that the RAM would get in the way, as it seems most Mobo's have their RAM slots in the way of the AGP card. I used the scientific method of touching the heatsink when running a game for awhile. It gets pretty warm, but not hot. Not very cool eit...

I want it all! 3D performance and silence. I know, I know. To dream the impossible dream... Would be easier to fight a windmill rather than have a totally silent performance PC. Seriously, though. The Ti4200 has such a high overclock margain, that it runs quite cool by itself. I wouldn't run it with...

Man, the Rocket Drive DL has different prices for each empty board. They set an artificial memory cap to jack up the prices accordingly! The 4GB maximum Rocket Drive DL costs $899 on their site! Yikes. Seems to me that the board is the same for all Rocket Drive DL versions, just has the max memory l...

I used shelfing material and boxed in my noisy 2KVA UPS and Server. I had to put some fans and blow holes with ducting to allow airflow. I used Panafol L1A's, but am looking to replace with quieter fans. I lined the inside with "egg cate" style acoustic foam also. So, it's kind of a case for compute...

Looks like you could fit a TKPower fanless PSU in there.
http://www.siliconacoustics.com/tkpow300wfan.html
That would make for a high performance system cooled by a single fan!
Not a cheap one, though.

Experiences with TKPower fanless PSU?
Does anyone have this PSU?
What are your experiences? Suitable for single Athlon XP system?
Looks like an open frame 1U PSU.

Pretty damn expensive. Ouch.

That small 125 watt one is just like industrial open frame psu's like one's made by EOS. Notice that it says it still needs a fan, albeit a really low flow one. I have a 130watt EOS VLT series one about that same size. It has a slight buzz noise, more like soft clicking. Can only hear it if you put ...

I wouldn't run a fanless PSU that wasn't designed to unless it is on a non-critical computer, or at least one that doesn't have expensive components on it. I modded an el cheapo CompUSA 300watt PSU, switched the noisy fan with a Panaflo L1A with disastrous results. Two months later I turn on the com...
