ugly, Welcome to SPCR!!! [/size] Vents are typically a bad thing, unless you're ducting your CPU directly out of the case...but it doesn't sound like you are. Can you list a model # or manufacturer of your case? It would help a lot. In any case, you are correct that tidying up your cable runs would ...

Glad someone broke up the UK insanity. Don't you guys have an election to prepare for? I noticed the topic of the thread has the words "mild overclock" included...if that is indeed the case, I would think about getting some different RAM, unless you plan on overclocking far enough to where di...

They've got a couple other issues they need to fix with flash first. The main one is that they can only be written to about 100,000 times, which doesn't translate to a great amount of time in HDD years. Secondly, the transfer rates are currently a lot slower than even a 5400 RPM hard drive. Once the...

BTW, I tend to trust Lost Circuits more than I do XBit, FWIW. Judging from the response your post on this got, you might be the only one who does. They did mention their outdated equipment in the article, though, so I'm not sure why anyone is acting like that's news. Not that it matters to me. I'm ...

Anyways, does this mean that the Venice is supperior to the Winchester in every way (don't care pricewise) ? Or is Xbit the more reliable source? Possibly, if only by a tiny margin. If you already own a Winny, unless you can sell it for a good bit of money (not likely now that Venice is available) ...

Great find! The only reviews I had seen so far were trying to overclock them as much as possible on Mach IIs, with little regard to heat dissipation. 8.4 W at idle! Hopefully the extra 512 MB cache on the San Diego won't hurt it's power draw too much; the reviewer didn't seem to think it mad...

Re: Venice CPU & NForce4 problem
I have seen a posting that if a MB and CPU are purchased together from Monarch Computer, Monarch will flash the MB BIOS before shipment. I usually purchase parts from Newegg or Zipzoomfly and I wonder how they intend to handle this problem. Monarch will also burn in your CPU/RAM (at stock volts) if...

A lot of members have reported ticking problems when using the ATI silencer, especially when coupled with ATI's voltage regulator for the fan. You're right, though, the PSU is ramping up b/c now the 60C-70C temps that your VGA card are putting off are staying inside the case. The zalman can still wo...

*goes to buy his own planer* Nice case. I especially like the ghetto rig for the PSU. I didn't see any fans mentioned for the intakes on the bottom of the case, though, nor any filters. I would think with the intake ports ~2 inches away from the carpet and no filter the thing would suck up dust like...

http://www.anandtech.com/news/shownews.aspx?i=24160 I think this is a pretty cool idea. While solid-state storage is still prohibitively expensive and (compared to spinning HDDs) slow (well, non-volatile anyway), having a really large cache can help keep at least the seek noise down, since it obvio...

Now if only programs were written so the addition of cores in CPUs has the same effect on scalability as the addition of pipelines in GPUs. *sigh* it'll happen, and the price of those programs will probably double, thanks to the extra development time  Oh, well, they'll figure it out eventual...

Pretty much every mainstream card manufactured for the PCI-e bus is dual-head nowadays...it just depends on the connections you want. Some are 1xDVI, 1xVGA while others are 2xDVI. As seltrus said, some of the most-liked passive cards around here are from Gigabyte, and as he said they are both of the...

But I don't know if it is cost effective or even possible to come up with what we all want--a fan with relatively high output that makes absolutely no motor noise at any speed, and only minimal air turbulence noise. At the very least, any new fan should exceed the CFM output of the best currently a...
