Is this with AACS? Otherwise, perhaps the deinterlacing is to blame.

It's enabled. They test with 3,5" hdd and a ~400 W ATX PSU. 53 W for a Intel desktop system is quite well!

Some remarks from the test in the printed german magazine C't in issue 18/07. Kernel compile and Sysmark 2007 ~6 % slower than G33 boards. Gaming signficantly faster (2-60%). Very bad VGA signal at 1280x1024, i.e. shadow pictures, bad colors, unsharpness. Sometimes unreliable HDCP, reboot needed. In...

Re: Desktop CPU's vs Mobile CPU's (Conroe vs Merom)

Btw, a 690G (without "wonder" BIOS) and a 6000+ was not enough for smooth 1080p because of the AACS overhead.[2] As you noted, this is less of an issue with Intel CPU. A new test: a Geforce 7050 has PureVideo and allows fluent pictures with a 5200+, but not a 4800+. ( C't 18/07, page 147). Thanks f...

Re: Desktop CPU's vs Mobile CPU's (Conroe vs Merom)

Inefficient chipset and motherboard design are killing Conroe's power consumption at the moment. You either needs MoD Intel or desktop AMD.[1] Power-consumption should be equal, but Intel costs more. You should keep an eye on HD playback of the integrated solutions since external is always bad regar...

Did you play around with the dividers in s2kctl?

Btw, s2kctl basically reduces you frequency by dividing it with the divider. Leakage current is only reduced by lowering vcore. So both method coexist quite nicely. The big saving is quite a surprise, but a Barton seems to have much leakage.

You have no integrated Intel GPU, so no ADD2 option for you.
If you are not interested in HD playback, I see no problem with a 7300/7600/X1300, except I didn't check the maximum resolutions.

FWIW, the e4300 draws less than the BE-2300 (ad idle AND load), although it costs more.
Intel refined the manufacturing, true. Both should be equal by now at idle on the CPU level, but I've yet to see a intel desktop platform with equal power draw to a 690G or 7050 platform.

Does it matter which type of board you get? DDR3 or DDR4? I thought the DDR4 is probably the better option if you go for a 2600. I found a DDR4 board for $150. Don't get GDDR4. The idle power management is currently broken so it does not clock down. I only have a german source , though. EDIT: http:...

Ok, so C1E does not work. What about tailoring your own RMClock profile? The background why I don't like the droop reduction is that intel is not stuped. The droop sould be tailored around the properties of the CPU so that you don't loose stability when comparing light load vs high load. Reducing th...

The biggest problem of the old system ist the graphics card. Just compare it here (whole system power in Watt). It's also important that the disconnect and PowerNow is enabled. Check with RMClock (?) and S2kCtrl

And a C2D 6600 like the OP has will have no trouble playing 1080p even without help from the GPU. It seems to me he could get away with even a 7100GS. The 7100GS is basically a 6200. It's build in 110nm. A 7200/7300 card based on the G72 would be a better choice. (sources: http://www.nvidia.com/obj...

You never play games, why the overkill with 256 MiB? Turbocache only uses the memory when needed, and short googling showed at least in Detonator 8 there was a key to disable it.

What about dual-DVI?
