I can tell you now - the 900 was a hard case to silence, the 1200 will only be worse. it's too open to hide airborne noise from hard disks and any small fans, plus the stock fans don't go silent at low speed, far from it.

I've just reread this article. If the HD3870 really is 21dB at 30% fan speed, then it just goes to show how important noise character is - I own a stock cooled HD3870 and a Corsair HX520, rated one higher at 22dB, and the PSU is almost inaudible beneath the GPU at more than 2 feet away.

I have no issue in recommending Dell or Samsung monitors. If you buy Dell though, stick with the proper Ultrasharp series, I don't know if the E series is as good. If you go samsung, get the 226BW - a very fine screen that.

That's still a reasonable amount of current, you'll want a pretty large resistor.

if at all possible, get a card you can fit a Thermalright HR-03 cooler to. There's nothing quieter than no fans at all (as long as you don't have an X1900 with screaming chips like I have).

The Zalman CNPS7000 is only quiet enough at 5V. Anything above and your PC will not be silent. Try running the Nexus 92mm fan. 12V will suffice, but for absolute silence, I'd recommend around the 10V level, you can always get one of those resistance cables. What else is in your PC?
