Re: 7600GS passive, 32W

Thanks to the lower clock speeds NVIDIA has been able to get the peak power consumption down to 32 Watts from the 67 Watts found on the 7600 GT. Halving the power consumption seems a lot. The core is at 400 MHz rather than 560MHz, but the 7600GS is also using DDR2 memory when the 7600GT is using DD...

‘8cm Superred fan blowing across the HDDs. Checked the specs, said 24cfm and 21dBA. No fricking way 21dBA. At least I have a door. The PSU intake wasn't providing enough airflow for the HDDs ? Is that because with the front door closed there is no opening for the fresh air to come in that place ? I...

Great job indeed. I had no time to verify the numbers in depth, but I caught a small typing error in Hyphe's graph, there are two GeForce 6800 and no GeForce 6600. I guess one of them got an 8 instead of a 6. Anyway they are so close to each other (14.07 vs 14.10) that it's not that important. As to...

The best you can do is getting some friends that overclock CPU's. They love high TDP's, while you want the low ones. I thought a lot about that, now I can understand why overclockers love high TDP's. High TDP means the CPU let more current flow through itself, showing it is of better quality, and s...

I read on many places that the ASUS EN7800GT Top Silencer cools good without a fan, didnt think I needed one on them. You have to put in the graph all the info needed by the reader. If price/power/performance are of use then you have to put the three. 3D graph are quiet hard to read, especially when you deal with discreet points rather than with continuous area (like altitude on a 3D geographical map that you can d...

Re: Does it make sense to tape off the GPU vent?

The GPU vent is pretty close to the rear 120 mm fan. As air movement follows the path of least resistance, I fear that most of the air exhausted by the rear fan will be drawn from the GPU vent. I have absolutly no idea about your problem. But I can tell you to try with a cigarette or an incense sti...

1) as I wrote the hard disk are suspended in front of the front fan; they are exactly the same (Western Digital WD1600PD) but there's always a 5 degrees difference between their temperatures. Maybe you should try to swap them, if the difference remains I would say it's due to bad calibration of the...

SpeedFan should work with your motherboard. It allows to monitor voltages, temperatures and fan speeds, you can even control fan speeds on supported mobos.
You can find more info about it and numerous other softwares in SPCR 'Web Links & Downloads' section here is the relevant page about SpeedFan.

you can't base the resistance of the fan based upon its current rating. What is generally listed on fans is the max current draw. You probably won't ever see the fan draw this much power unless you stall the fan at 13.2 volts. I guess you are right on that. About the 10% tolerance, I'm not convince...

Re: How to lower voltage without wasting power?

I just got another idea ; since your fans are of the same model, you might as well use another trick which is simpler. You wire 2 fans in line (I don't know the proper translation for 'en série'). The 12v get in the first fan, but when the wire get out of the fan, you wire it on the second fan rathe...

Re: How to lower voltage without wasting power?

However, the specs written on the fan themselves are not identical to the one given in the spec sheet. So here they are : Model : FBA12G12L Voltage : 12V Current : 0.24 A You are right to trust these specs, because they give you the current associated with a given voltage (12V) rather than with a w...
