As for quality problems with the TJ08, i have experienced the exact opposite. Everything looks very well made and finished. Havent had a problem with mine. Only the side panels are thin and flimsy, but thats hardly a quality problem. It's been awhile, but the highlights were the stripped screw hole...

Well, I gave up on the idea of it doing any real sound deadening. Instead I picked up a 3M Filtrete 1250 model, and am currently cutting it down. Just putting it in front of the case, I can tell it doesn't do any real deadening. It takes a little bit off the high pitched Velociraptor hum, but that's...

Oh, I agree, there's definitely a problem with the mobile stuff, Nvidia has come out with it and warranties are being extended. On the desktop side, all we have is 'Charlie's sources' saying they're seeing far higher than normal failures. I'm skeptical until I see something from someone who doesn't ...

Even though he was right the first time around, I'll take any claims Charlie at The Inquirer makes about Nvidia with a huge grain of salt. Apparently he has it out for them, and The Inquirer is known for posting just about anything no matter how little substantiation it has. That said... damn, I JUS...

The TJ08 is very cheap feeling, and there are quality control issues. I've used two of them and both have had stripped screw holes out of the box, for example (I've also had this issue on other Silverstone budget cases). Overall, the thing is just plain flimsy and not enjoyable to work in like Silve...

This thread talks about using them in the Quiet Drive. It doesn't fit as intended, but you can make it work, and actually have about as effective cooling as the stock sled.

fan filter as sound deadening, material suggestions?
I was torn if I should post this under fans or cases, sorry if I was wrong. I have a 100% negative pressure Lian-Li A16. If you're not familiar with the case, it has 9 optical drive bays with mesh covers, so I have no shortage of air intake. What I'm lacking is something blocking my ears from the (s...

Did Noctua stop shipping with LNA cables? which is which?
Their website seems to only mention ULNA these days, as did SPCR in the roundup. Anyway, the reason I was there... I have a pile of S-12 800, S-12 1200, and P12 here, and along with them, the LNA/ULNA adapters. Unfortunately, I have none of my packaging, and forgot which is which. I have black, blue...

I've had a PC60 since one of the first shipments from Japan way back in the 300a days. Back then the extras amazed me, like the fan controller and the rather simple cable management. This was coming from Addtronics and Inwin. The thing that always bothered me was the noise, and I promised myself I'd...

At any rate, I'm thinking probably the only way to get a truly reliable server setup would be with a single regular boot disk, then have all your data on a RAID array driven by a dedicated RAID controller. Of course for RAID 0+1 now you're talking at least 5 drives, but if you prefer RAID5 then you...

Yeah, pretty much anything can be slowed down with Nero DriveSpeed, though I think some don't work. And in Linux you can just use hdparm, and there are some alternatives when that doesn't work. Everything is going to make a ton of noise at full speed, it's the nature of the beast. And you're going t...

Pioneer makes the only slot loading 5.25" drives I've seen. Honestly, though, a slot loader will always be louder than the same tray loader because there's less occlusion. But then, I guess you won't be ripping or installing much from disc since you're running a Linux based HTPC, so a simple 'hdparm...

So is the Ultra 120 really worth a complete paradigm shift here? You seem like you'll be a lot happier with a good desktop case, but you're moving to a rather large tower for the sake of a heatsink. That seems backwards to me, usually I'll choose a case and then find a heatsink which fits into it's ...

Even if it were a problem, which I'm not convinced it isn't, you're not going to have much issue for a few reasons: -Most very hot components on the DQ6 are covered by those heatsinks, and they're piped right in front of the rear and top fans on the P180. -The capacitors are solid state, so they're ...

Just keep in mind, ducting makes it easy to introduce hot spots by overlooking things like motherboard components around the duct. You probably won't have too many issues considering all the fan mounts in your case, but remember that there are a lot more considerable heat producing components than a...

Well, water is effected more by gravity, making it fill in the gaps below it. Also, water cooling systems are positive pressure, making the water fill in gaps all around it more efficiently. Which makes me wonder if a case cooled with a positive pressure air flow would get more benefit from the grea...
