Mike, Did you happen to try a 20 pin atx plug in the board? I have an older 20 pin fanless power supply that doesn't seem to make any coil buzzes or other noises. Would be a nice combo. Yes, I do recall trying a 20-pin ATX, and it worked fine, but no substantial testing was done. In general, 20-pin...

ICH5R with RAID0 is works but... You must install winxp on another drive with the 2 i-ram and install the Intel Storeage Matrix 5.5 (This the last ISM with ICH5R support!!) Then create the RAID array under windows :P And boot up with the xp installcd, then setup is recognize the array. Thank you!! ...

I couldn't say for sure. Here is a link to the RAM I installed.

I just bought the cheapest DIMMs I could find at the time. These were $65.

I know what you mean. Going to the other extreme is my notebook drive. Very quiet and reliable, but.... Samsung I'd like to see a motherboard that piped PCIe lanes to an onboard controller that was connected to eight DDR2 800 DIMM slots. Sweet!! I bet it would sell like wildfire provided it had good...

Some ICH5R HDTach results
Intel's ICH5R has two modes: Compatability and Enhanced. In compatability mode the two SATA ports are set to run as slave and master on single IDE channel and share the singla channel's 150MB/s bandwidth. This setting allows compatability with Windows ME and earlier, hence its name. In Enhanced mode...

I just set up my new I-RAM, installed XP and drivers, updated to SP2 and trimmed XP down to size. It was the only "hard drive" in the system, so I shut down Windows, but never shut down power to the system. I plugged in a HDD to copy an image to, and when I started up the machine, the I-RAM had los...

Ain't got nothing to lose, as long as you're careful when mounting it. Could I talk you into helping the ignorant? I've never had the good fortune of working with a CPU that didn't have a heatspreader, cap thingy, like found on a P4. What are the things to be careful about and/or avoid when working...

I received my Sapphire X1900XTX today and I just mounted the Accelero X2. I can tell you this: At idle, it is inaudible. I love it. There cannot possibly be a better option for silence. I would recommend it to everyone looking into purchasing a high-end ATI (or nVidia) card! No idea about temps yet...

AOpen i975Xa-YDG: Socket 478 heatsink or not?
Looking at the new Core Duo motherboard from AOpen, the heatsink retention clip looks remarkably like a socket 478 retention clip.
Good photos can be seen here at NewEgg.
Can a socket 478 heatsink be fitted? It would make a nice new home for an NCU-2000 I have doing nothing but collecting dust.

It shows the two i-RAMs in RAID0. I go back into the BIOS and set the new RAID set as the first hard disk.. From here bo...

If I was to speculate, and I am, I'd guess you have a problem with your BIOS, battery, or somewhere in between. The power supply couldn't effect the clock, but a failed battery or connection between the battery and the BIOS would cause your BIOS data, including clock settings, to revert to their def...

Re: huh?
You need a NF4 sataII controller, or a highend Intel motherboard with native sata to remove the speed limits of PCI bus based controllers. There-in lies the irony. My $200 Intel board w/ICH5R southbridge wont run the i-RAMs in RAID but my $12 3112r PCI card will. I can get RAID, but only if I take ...

Accelero X2 vs V1 Ultra here: http://www.legionhardware.com/document.php?id=537 50+ DB is far from quiet, which is the problem. And he's calling it "nearly silent." The stock fan on the V1 Ultra at 12 volts makes a freakin' racket. Given the results in the review, I'd think a good test at cooling a...

Meanwhile I had another idea to throw at you... have you considered using disk compression? Traditionally, the main disadvantage of this was speed limitations... though it does nothing for reliability either... I think we would experience the same speed penalty in that it occurs at the CPU where da...

That's $1k plus the cost of 16GB of ECC RAM (~$150/GB x 16GB = $2,400.00). We coud get no less than 8 fully populated i-RAMs for that price. Nicely featured, though. PATA and SATA connector, ECC RAM allowing 2GB DIMMs instead of just 1GB. Auto back-up under power fail. Though I can't really understa...

What is quieter at same performance (as silent as possible, without GPU overheating). VF900-Cu or Accelero X2 or V-1 Ultra? I don't have an X1900XTX to try it on, but I think you're pushing your luck trying to cool it quietly with a V1Ultra. I have one on my X850XT PE. The GPU gets up to ~70C with ...

I'm giving an Asus P4P800-E Deluxe a try. It has an Intel 865PE chipset and ICH5R southbridge, with an additional Promise PDC20378 PATA/SATA RAID controller.
