A quiet notebook drive in a good enclosure makes a nice combo. A little short on performance, though.

Mike, Did you happen to try a 20 pin atx plug in the board? I have an older 20 pin fanless power supply that doesn't seem to make any coil buzzes or other noises. Would be a nice combo. Yes, I do recall trying a 20-pin ATX, and it worked fine, but no substantial testing was done. In general, 20-pin...

ICH5R with RAID0 is works but... You must install winxp on another drive with the 2 i-ram and install the Intel Storeage Matrix 5.5 (This the last ISM with ICH5R support!!) Then create the RAID array under windows :P And boot up with the xp installcd, then setup is recognize the array. Thank you!! ...

I just bought the cheapest DIMMs I could find at the time. These were $65.

Some ICH5R HDTach results

Intel's ICH5R has two modes: Compatability and Enhanced. In compatability mode the two SATA ports are set to run as slave and master on single IDE channel and share the singla channel's 150MB/s bandwidth. This setting allows compatability with Windows ME and earlier, hence its name. In Enhanced mode...

I just set up my new I-RAM, installed XP and drivers, updated to SP2 and trimmed XP down to size. I plugged in a HDD to copy an image to, and when I started up the machine, the I-RAM had los...

Psssst... Hey everyone.

If your Pentium/Celeron M motherboard comes in a retail box and your Pentium/Celeron M CPU comes in a retail box - they are going to work together. You can safely ignore all the pin-socket distinctions and confusion.

Well, the onboard Promise controller works in RAID, but, of course, it's piped through the PCI bus and gets the same ~112MB/s as the SiiG PCI card.

AOpen i975Xa-YDG: Socket 478 heatsink or not?

Looking at the new Core Duo motherboard from AOpen, the heatsink retention clip looks remarkably like a socket 478 retention clip.

Good photos can be seen here at NewEgg.

Can a socket 478 heatsink be fitted? It would make a nice new home for an NCU-2000 I have doing nothing but collecting dust.

If I was to speculate, and I am, I'd guess you have a problem with your BIOS, battery, or somewhere in between. The power supply couldn't effect the clock, but a failed battery or connection between the battery and the BIOS would cause your BIOS data, including clock settings, to revert to their def...

You need a NF4 sataII controller, or a highend Intel motherboard with native sata to remove the speed limits of PCI bus based controllers. There-in lies the irony.
