Just like to say, had mine running passive for some time now, Its great, Does get a bit hot, but have never had a thermal cut out. No noises. Love the finish on the case. Looks pretty sexy. A purchase I have so far bee n very pleased with. Bought it in September last year. Have been running Athlon 2...

riteo... i must have misread your first post, i remember reading "100% passive" as well as "ps2 fan" and the 2nd must have overruled the 1st if you are still using the ps2 fan though, perhaps there's a way to duct the area behind the motherboard to the ps2 fan so you get at least a little bit of mo...

would it not have been possible to start with an HTPC case? i think the front facias of HTPC cases would resemble what you're trying to achieve, maybe pick your favourite looking one and take design hints from it? (e.g. volume knob) Yep. It would have been a lot less effort. I'm not even sure that ...

My Silent Playstation 2-HTPC Hybrid WIP UPdate 17/10

Hi all. I thought I would introduce you to a work in progress. This is a lesson how "That seems a simple idea" turns into "How many of those things have I trashed now" I will in the future do a more detailed description of the process, with some shots of the trickier bits of the mod. First of all le...

It does seem a bit overspecced for an HTPC machine, do you have other aspirations for it? I would tend to agree on the dual core processor, dont think that it is required for MCE. The RAID though I would say yes to. If you wish to increase the number of TV shows you can record at the same time...AND...

I'm impressed with this mod... And slightly peeved at myself for not trying it earlier. I had intended doing it using ramsink when I came up with the idea about 6 months ago. My concerns over shorting out the mobo put me off, and I never really took any more time to look for a resolution to this. I ...

5 things 1.) ripping off other company's work 2.) false specs 3.) quality is 2nd grade, flimsy Al, cheap plastic etc. 4.) prices are on par with real good quality products. 5.) too blingy, no performance In the end it just isnt worth the money. they cost just the same as the org for a pirated copy....

The bling thing is something I'm not into. But then I dont buy the products aimed at that market. TT does market towards the bling modding crowd, but that is not a reason to dislike all of their product. The somewhat exagerated marketing is an issue... Though not just from TT. What I can say about t...

I think that they have a couple of good coolers... The Typhoon is VFM if you live in the UK, a very quiet and good performing CPU cooler.. The schooner does a good job as a vga cooler as well. In my experiance of computer retail (I worked 8 years in the industry) a prolongued warranty like that is a manufacturers warranty. Just to step in on the TT debate (as always) Where are you buying from? The UK or otherwise. In the UK TT gives you a lot of bang for your buck. However I wouldn't use that heatsink. I'd be interested to hear how quiet a uber fan like this could be. The hub is bal bearing though. If it would go slow enough it may be ok. This case looks like it can be run passive. I'm running a 2100athlon XP passive. I undervolted it and used a big heatsink. The case I made has mesh sections just like the Silverstone case has. The 120mm TT fan that comes with the Typhoon is badged Hong Sheng. However I had one out against a nexus and the two are identical in terms of the casing and fan profile. Re: False Marketing Claims

a Thermaltake 120mm fan advertised at almost twice the airflow at a lower db than a 120mm Yate Loon Flowing air creates noise. It's physically impossible to double the airflow and reduce noise at the same time. That depends on how good the origional fan is in the first place. It is possible to prod...

You could do a lot of maths to work that out, or you could do what I tend to do.

Take a variable resistor, turn the dial till you get the behaviour you wish. Then Either leave it in place, or measure it with a voltmeter and replace with a resister to that value.

Be wary of TT's claims. But dont write it off just becasue of the brand name. TT always get a bashing here, however not all of their products are unsuitable for silencing. IMO most manufacturers are guilty of exagerating their claims. That doesn'tmean that their products are poor. A lot of people he...

I'm sure it can be. I have the passive 9800 and it doesn't get that hot. The only issue you will have is that the passive coolers available off the shelf generally are for the non AIW versions. I'm sure though that you could adapt one or alternatively manufacture your own heatsink to cool the card. ...
