Here's another good fan that's 2/3rds the airflow but 1/4 the size.

Fanless PSU
My old LC3 didn't have a single fan inside. Not on the Powersupply, nor on the chipset. Beautiful machine that. The subsequent 603e and G3 laptops didn't have a single fan either, but channeled heat directly into your sensitive bits. OK, it wasn't a perfect design, but it worked very well, and very ...

Ok, It's 9:30 AM, and I've been at this for over 12 hours now. I'm getting up at noon to have lunch with someone... That'll be interesting. Ok, I've added a layer of paxmate to the top, bottom, both inside walls, and the front, as well as the front facade and anything that might be internally reflec...

Re: re:
IIRC, someone here mentioned how leaving the fan in or better yet, closing off the 92mm hole is better for the PSU (convection effect?). I wanted to close up the rear holes so less noise escapes, but I see what you mean about the only air pathway. Forgot to mention there's an empty blowhole on top ...

good looking case there :), 1stly if u want the case to be quieter CLEAN UP YOUR CABLES, apart from constricting airflow the cables also cause turbluence noise as well, the fan in the bottom blowing on the HDD is also a big wide window for noise  all well, u could duct it so that the noise wo...

Hmm... Heat spreader
A heat spreader might work in an enclosure. What I'm thinking right now is something suspending it by a netting in an enclosure with pass-through USB and Ethernet ports, with an open back and a 5v fan plugged into a cheap AC Adapter. Due to physical restraints, the enclosure would probably be a wood...

Silencing can be an obsession, and obsessions are never pretty. Here is my current rig, what I call the "Experiment Box," or "Big Geek," (after the submersible in the Abyss). http://www.cybercom.net/~seishino/Front.jpg Never ever put sound-deadening material on the outside of your computer... Sorry, I never trust internally reported temperatures. Call me old fashioned, but I wedge a cheap temperature probe between my hard drives when I want to make sure they are still at 40 degrees. Probes can be had almost anywhere, and cost next to nothing. I'm currently using a cheap UEI probe from Fr...

Laptop Silencing?
Hello everyone... My roommate's laptop creates a ton of noise, but is usually used as if it were a simple terminal (the battery can't actually keep a charge) attached to an external moniter. Before she will let me hack the little thing open, does anyone have experience / tips cooling down and silenc...

Ah, you silence one part of your computer only to notice another is whiny and loud... It's a common tale. HD's are a loud bunch, but they are also some of the cheapest to quiet. Check out the rubber thread for more ideas.

Isolating vibrations vs encouraging them
One of my first experiments in silencing was to isolate the fans in the case with layers of double-sided tape and thick, soft foam. The results were disasterous. The foam wasn't firm enough to keep the fans held in place, and they began to oscillate rapidly in place. The resultant turbulance made th...

Here we have a Nokia branded 447L and a 21" Nanao FlexScan F2-21. Both are over 5 years old. The Nanao's picture is too fuzzy for our tastes, but we use it for web development anyway. Except for a slight high-pitched whine when your ear is within 1 inch or so of the grill area in the back, it makes ...

I had a 41" Technica that would de-gauss every time you turned the power on. It was quite impressive, too: it sounded like a giant metal gong had been hit by a drunken flying duck. It was very impressive, and made the turning on of the TV into an event like the discovery of the monolith in 2001. Too...

Native 7v fans at 5v?
I use a PS2 as a DVD player, basically because we don't want to fund the MPAA bastards more than we already have. However, the fan was an unbearably loud, 60mm china-made offbrand fan with no bearings and bad circulation. It has been summarily excised. an 80mm Pflo has taken its place. But the syste...

120mm adapter?
I know this is slightly off topic, but...
What about using a 80-120mm adaptor sucking INTO the case, with an undervolted 120mm fan? Would the lowered pressure behind the fan create a vaccuum of more noise, or is there enough space in the case to prevent a large difference in pressures?

Temps?
The most important thing is making sure the temperature inside the PSU / Case doesn't rise (too far) above the manufacturer's set threshold. Is the air coming out of the PSU hot? OK, and the onslaught of questions... is it a 150 Watt stock PS, or a 300 W enermax? What is the ambient temperature in t...

Peltier idea
Call me idealistic, but would it be possible to use a Peltier attached between the case and a long heatpipe to pull heat from the CPU to the outside of the case, where you could mount a rather extensive series of fins? Would the distance between the peltier and the CPU prevent the nasty ice buildup ...

I accidently ran a P3 800 for several days without any fans and with a stock heatsink. The sink was warm to the touch, but not hot. I would definitely consider getting a later model P3 and clocking (if possible) back down to 800.
