Compressed air is recomended. Here in sweden, a can costs just about 10-15$ (transformed to dollars) and will last quite some time if you don't use it overly often. Just start your vacum cleaner with a clean nozzle (no furry things inside the computer, please!), hold it above the heatsink or the pla...

Your hard drive is most likely to be an extremely loud ball bearing one. I've recently bought an old computer (P200MMX) and it has only got two fans, but it still sounds like a buzzsaw because of the hard drive. Go for a cheap Samsung P80, P120 or a laptop hard drive and I bet the noise will drop. Y...

It's not even that small, it accepts a full-size ATX PSU too which makes it way to big IMO.

Also, the mounting of hard drives seems odd. Hard drive cooling is critical in SFFs, I know that after owning a KlossPC with drive temps of 60-65C...

The length of the 4-pin 12V*2 cable of the Phantom 350W is enough to route the cable from the lower chamber of the P180, under the mainboard and around the top edge to the connector on mainboards with the connector on top-left position.

I have arranged it this way in my setup.

For the first time I can probably say I'm slightly disapponted with the article. You got the one of the very few Core Duo boards with stock S478 retention, even mounted Ninja and.... did not test it passive. I would have really liked to see the fanless temperature results on this CPU. The T2600 Cor...

50mm is a not too uncommon size for here in sweden. Both adda and papst, and a few more manufacturers have fans in 40, 50, 60, 80, 90 and 120mm sizes. Even the local dealers has 50mm fans, however I have never seen any use for them ever, before this.

70mm is much harder to find.

Is the fan on the new heatsink 40 or 50mm?

40mm is printed in the original article, however "The new fan is the exact same 50mm x 10mm fan as supplied with the original Lilliputian heatsink." is printed in the postscript.

I don't know if the backplate differs on S939 boards, but on my Asus A8N-SLI Premium, I was able to use the stock plastic backplate. Just had to switch the retention bracket on the front, and it matched up nicely with the stock backplate.

You could even go as far as using a 7900GT with passive cooling from either the Aerocool VM-102 or the BeQuiet! Polar freezer. Opening up a PCI slot just below the card reduces the temps a bit.

This drive looks like a better choise than Samsungs's T133 if you need this amount of storage.

This drive is on par with the P120 (even better regarding seeks), and the T133 is reported so (at least subjectively) be louder than the P120.

Complete it with a well-silenced raptor and the use of external network storage, you will have silence and performance to a h...

Just looking at the "Power consumption within 6 PC's" makes it interesting. Higher powered systems use almost all the extra power from 12V, very little is being used from 3.3V and 5V respectively.

The only problem is to find the AC-DC brick that does it.

The Arctic Cooling Alpine looks like it might fit, it is about ~1cm shorter than the case overall height, which might be too tight. Without the fan it looks like the best "passive" solution. Maybe it can be modded with a new fan since it is only 42mm tall without the fan.

What heatsinks could be used to run this passive? I even doubt that a P-M could be run fanless in this case, since there is from what I know no passive low-profile heatsink that would do the job. They are practically the same PSU anyway, just the fan that differs, and it makes the PSU even bigger, almost preventing it from being installed in a P180 :/

I choose between the 350W and the 500W version, both cost the same, and I choose the 350W version still.

Energy is required only to accelerate particles or objects, not to maintain a constant speed without friction.

However, when these particles stop moving, as they surely will unless going on forever without friction, the kinetic energy will convert into heat through frictional losses.
