The Zalman chipset heatsink works great, but it gets in the way of my video card. It's grinds against my geforce 7800gs when i put it in and it scratches the heatsink cover. Ofc this depends on the layout of the motherboard. With your layout, i could get away with it. But if you try to put a 7900GTX...

Ya, I am specifically staying away from Asus because of my PSU. It's a shame because I really like the looks of the Asus motherboards. I am now debating between the 2 passive Abit boards, the K8N, and the AT8. (the ones with the blue heatsinks w/ heatpipe, not the copper colored ones). Abit K8N - I ...

Motherboard upgrade options for P150 with 430 NEOHE?

Hi, My motherboard just died the other day (MSI Neo2 platinum) after 2 months of operation with my P150 case. Im looking to upgrade to a good PCI-E motherboard, but I am weary about what motherboards will be compatible with the problematic 430 NEOHE. So far I have had little problems with my MSI mob...

P150 rear 120mm grille noise

I am thinking of cutting off the grille as i think much of noise is being caused by the air turbulance of my Nexus120 hitting the grille. However, it doesnt look very good with the grills cut with snippers, and I don't want a big gaping hole for fingers and wires to fall into. So I am considering on...

Get it from Silencio on ebay (i forgot his exact ebay username). And he is also a regular on the board. I don't know if this will help you but this is my 'poorboy' approach to quietly cool down my geforce 6800 nu: 1) remove the shroud covering off the heatsink and unplug the VGA fan. 2) buy a fan card bracket, this is basically just a bracket that fits under your video card, and is a plain silicone bo...

Im sure at 1000rpm brand new, youll barely be able to hear the Zalman. Using the 7v cable it came with it was very quiet (1600rpm?), but only lasted a year before i started hearing some buzzing motor sound. I tried oiling it with 3in1 oil did not help any. For vibration dampening, I would go for vinyl sheets that are similar to the ones pre applied to the p150. Try to look for cascade VB-2MPC vinyl sheets which is a minipack that covers 4.5 sq feet and costs between 15-20 dollars. You may be able to find this at automotive stores. One place on the p15...

I don't think vinyl would help that much, unless it's vibration is causing the racket Actually for my NEC drive, much of the sound is from vibration, not just the woosh sound you hear from an optical drive at high rpm. On my P150 case, I can barely feel vibration from my fans, but when I'm burning,...

Has anyone ever experimented with dampening directly on an optical drive? I have an NEC nd-3500 that is really loud when its reading and burning at 8-12x. Hi, Well i blew my budget on the Antec P150 and a bunch of quiet fans and fan isolators. After playing with the he430 more, it seems you do not need to hook up all 3 rails as I have initially thought. The only thing to make sure is IF you use any of the v12 rails, you must fill up the 1 amp requirement to get it to run. No one should have a problem getting 1 amp on the 2nd v12 rail beca...

Most fan controllers arent deep, so you cant use the rear screwholes of the drive rails, but you can use the frontmost screw holes of the side rail to secure the fan controller. This is enough to secure it using 4 screws, two on each rail.

The vinyl does help, all you have to do is knock on it with your knuckles (as you would to fruit). With vinyl dampening it would sound like a thud, like a piece of solid wood. Without it, it would have a more of a tin sound to it with metallic harmonics.

I don't want to put anything thats flammable in my case like asphalt.

Vinyl has 2x the dampening capability using the same mass as asphalt. The motherboard tray is relatively flimsy compared to my older Inwin case, which the P150 is replacing.
