Re: Better long-term investment PS4 or XB1?

IMO the best that can happen is that when a process shrink will be available, within the same TDP they may increase clocks a bit In previous years what the console makers have done is (a.) reduce the cost of the console, (b.) reduce the size of the console or both when a die-shrink is available. Pe...

Re: Better long-term investment PS4 or XB1?

They won't build its successor for about 7 years. Unlike previous X-Boxes and PlayStations, now that both of them are using (almost) off the shelf PC hardware, there is no reason why they cant keep on "upgrading" the same console. e.g. PS 4.5 identical except the APU, games made after the "NEW" con...

Re: Chenbro SR30169 Mini-ITX Server Chassis

I don't see any problem with the temps of the HDDs in our review. Anything less than 50C is perfectly fine, there's bazillions of HDDs which do fine for years of 24/7 at >50C. Besides, all of the higher temps were only seen when the CPU was under ridiculously high load -- which rarely happens in a ...

Re: Chenbro SR30169 Mini-ITX Server Chassis

There are very few good points with this case/PSU. Hot swappable bays being the primary, being relatively quiet the second. Apart from this systems totally bizarre design and exceptionally poor PSU efficiency it seems to do it intended job reasonably well, but nowhere near well enough for me to recc...

Re: looking for a printer that wont screw me over.

Since we are keen in low consumption around here, maybe some could recommend lower idle commotion, on laser printer models? Mine has a physical on/off switch easily accessible on the side. Spends 99%+ of its time turned off, not just for power reasons but because it has a very fast spinning 80mm fa...

Re: looking for a printer that wont screw me over.

Reading this thread I realized I still had a Nec Superscript 870 that I got new in 98 in the basement. I haven't used it since at least 03, if not earlier, so it has been sitting for at least 10 years. Fired it up and while it made a rather worrying smell, it printed just fine. I'm pretty sure it's...

Re: How to silence your car

There are only 2 things that I dislike about the Model S

Its £60,000 more than I can afford.

The fake grill on the front, there is no need for it at all and IMO it spoils the look of the car.

Re: looking for a printer that wont screw me over.

Colour lasers cost a lot more to run than their mono brethren, so consider whether you actually need to print colour. A couple of things that I have discovered over the years: Brother printers are (generally) reliable and cost effective. EOL (models that are about to be replaced) printers are often ...

Re: How to silence your car

The Model S is about TWICE as efficient as a Prius, and the *conservative* 0-60MPH acceleration time of the standard version is 5.6s, and the performance version (again very conservatively) goes 0-60MPH in 4.4s. The Cg of the Model S is ~16" above the ground - it handles *very* well. It is also pos...

Islam isn't "barbaric". The conflicts with Islam are caused in part by mass immigration and in part by Israeli-Muslim conflicts, in which there simply is not a "good" side. Islam has a rich history. If robbed of their heritage, what would guide and direct Muslims? I'm for leaving them alone, strivi...

Re: How to silence your car

FYI my latest car cost me £360 (because I am skint ATM). This is one area where it will take years, or more likely decades for dirt cheap electric/hybrid vehicles to trickle down to very low price-points and still be usable without costing a fortune to fix. EV/hybrid (depending on miles driven etc) ...

Re: Western Digital Red 4TB & Se 4TB Hard Drives

No RAID, just plain drives connected to the Intel onboard controller. And TLER is actually other way around - a TLER enabled drive (good for RAID) gives up the recovery process in time up to 7 seconds maximum, after that the RAID controller takes over. A normal drive (Green, Blue, Black) with no TL...

Nowhere in the Quran does it actually say anything about women having to cover up. If anything it's pretty much the same as Christianity: both men and women should dress modestly.
