It was rather obvious that you're not that big on GPUs :P You pointed out that you couldn't make the HD 3850 ramp up it's fan. Well I have a similar thing, the fan won't ramp up at least before 90C but I have chosen to manually adjust the fanspeed with Rivatuner so the card keeps cool. Artifacting r...

'to keep it from sucking the hot air' ... You do realize that hot air goes up? It's not a very good idea to place a PSU upside down, and even more so when it's on top of the case. Where is it going to get cool air from then? The only spot in my case that feels warm, is the upper rear corner (PSU is ...

I have the Zerotherm BTF-90 on my Abit IP35-E and I've set a target temp of 60C in BIOS and so far the fan has only been running on it's minimun speed of ~1200RPM as I have not hit that temp yet on my OC. I'm running about 52C currently. It looks to be a great cooler even with this RPM and it's very...

Tom's Hardware just did a recap on AMD power consumption and had the following results. http://images.tomshardware.com/2008/01/29/processor_efficiency_compared/image012.png The system had a HD3850 (little difference to 3870), AMD 790FX board, one 500GB WD HDD (you have an additional laptop drive whi...

I was wondering about what they said about DES at Anandtech: "Intel's own power saving features known as C1E and EIST must be set to disabled before DES gains full control of altering processor core voltage on-the-fly. It is also important to point out that full operational use of DES is limited to ...

The wattage depends on if you OC or not. If you're running it stock, it consumes around 90-100W idle, 210-220W fully loaded (even these numbers are a bit high). If I were you, I'd take a Seasonic S12II-330 for that system, S12II-430/VX450 if you're overclocking, but since you've already made your mi...

They didn't test any Corsair PSUs during 2007 so it's no wonder.merlin wrote:I'm finding it a little wierd that there is no mention of corsair. Okay, it sounds to me from reading that article that dual, triple, quad rails were all designed for safety reasons, but aren't actually any safer and suffer from less efficiency. Single rail is the way. The VX450 is a single-rail, rated at 33amps, and according to the SPCR review, makes it's max ef...

Well, looking good, though 520W PSU is a total overkill for that system, 450W is more than enough, I'd suggest S12II-430 or the M12II-430 should be out by then if it already isn't, or if you love Corsair, the VX450 will handle your system without breaking a sweat, as will your current PSU, but I'd s...

Eventually I'd like to see the discrete GPU reinvented as an on-demand accelerator that shares video outputs with the low-power integrated GPU. I'm not sure if I understood correctly, but that sounded like you wanted to go back in time like 10 years when 3Dfx came out with the 3D-accelerator Voodoo...

I don't know about the Samsung HD but Anandtech recently reviewed the Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1TB along with Western Digital 1TB Caviar GP. Also in the results there is Hitachi's Deskstar 7K1000 which they had reviewed earlier. So you might want to check it out unless you've already done that. htt...
