I'm suddenly having some doubts about the Scythe Ninja. I keep running into reports about the rev.B being hard to install or fitting badly and not transferring heat properly. Considering I have no experience installing heatsinks, I'm not so sure this is the best heatsink for me. I want one that work...

Any idea how the SilenX IXTREMA 120 fits in this list? According to an anandtech article it claims the best airflow to noise ratio, but is that really true? How does it compare to the Nexus and the Yate Loon?

I saw the extremely out-of-date article and though: perhaps I should mention on the forum that it needs an update. (It worked for the GPU heatsinks.) But it looks like this thread is already filled with people clamouring for an update. Anyway, I'd love to see where the low-end Core 2 Duos fit in thi...

GA-P35-DS3L - will suit your needs. If you ever did need more SATA connectors, the MB has plenty of open expansion slots so you could add more SATA then. I did use this build for a friend and found it to be somewhat bad-tempered when overclocking, however. At stock speeds it worked fine, and for th...

the C2D E6750 isnt that hot running. so, yes, it's able to cool it just fine. that vendor doesnt know their ass from a hot rock. Well, it's the web app saying that. Apparently the E6750 is listed as a fast processor, en therefore it thinks a single case fan is not enough to cool it. I don't think y...

The DS3R is the cheapest one with "Ultra Durable II" power saving features, so that is probably what you want, unless you need firewire. I just got one, from newegg, and it came with E-SATA ports as well. What does that power saving feature actually do? How much power does it save in what way? And ...

I have a GA-P35-DS3 and it may just be the most solid board I've ever owned. I currently use it with an E6600 clocked to 3.2GHz on a 400MHz FSB (1600MHz if you use Intel lingo). I also have 8GB RAM (4*2GB) in the board, which I run at 800MHz without any trouble. 8 GB RAM? What brand? I'm leaning to...

Did you make sure those quiet fans had unrestricted airflow? IDE cables passing through your airflow can throw a serious wrench in the works here. This is another big advantage of the P182: it helps keep all the wires out of the way, for better airflow. It's intended to be as quiet as possible, and ...

My quiet, fast, programming/gaming system

I'm trying to put together a list of parts for my new PC and I'm nearly there (although I still have some questions). My requirements: it has to be quiet, low power consumption and reliable, without sacrificing performance. It should last me a long time, be upgradable or at least efficient enough to...

I get the impression it's now pretty well established that it is indeed 5400 rpm, and if the package says 7200 rpm, I expect this drive to be illegal in quite a lot of countries.

Which is a shame, because it sounds like a really nice drive.

Is the T166 quieter than the T133? I thought the Samsung Spinpoint T 400LJ was a T133, and that's the number 2 quietest 3.5" drive according to SPCR.

But how much does the vibration really matter if you're going to suspend the drive?

I'm getting the impression there's very little information on quiet optical drives on SPCR. No official recommendations, and not a lot of traffic on the forum. I'm also looking for a good yet quiet optical drive.

I admit I don't know much about GPUs, but isn't a HD38x0 a much better choice than a X1950 GT? The 38x0s idle really low yet are pretty state of the art. And if you really want to spend money on a completely silent system, why not use the Zalman TNN300 case? Sure, it costs a fortune, but your entire...

I was wondering why the Arctic Cooling Accelero S1 hasn't been added to the list yet, but I guess it's too new. Its review sounds like it's going to top the passive VGA cooler list, though. And it's cheap too!
