If it is only fileserver you could try clarkconnect.org linux distro. It can be run on relatively slow computer. Mine was running @ PII266Mhz + 128 mb ram. If you don't know anything about linux - dont't worry. That disto has point-and-click very easy instalation. Just boot form cd, clik-click-click...

I have this zalman and I really like it. But it has one issue - it is OVERPRICED. I've tested zalman cooling ability- it is comparable to old aluminium hdd 3x3,5" cage ripped form my old case and attached to HDD (I have same temperatures with zalman and with that old cage attached to disk). You can ...

I've come to appreciate the potential of a wiki. [...] So information that would fall halfway between SPCR articles and ordinary forum threads could benefit from a wiki for article development. I'm glad to hear that. I can prepare (complile from many existing) straight-forward tutorials: "How to ad...

I disagree. I think "unofficial" SPCR wiki is out of the question. Maybe I'm little overreacting, but for me it is like a stealing intelectual properity from MikeC and all SPCR users. And it is also like stealing FOCUS from SPCR and SPCR forum. I think the only way is to get MikeC/site admins approv...

I'm aware of that threads. I just want to bring it back, because that treads was more about how to prevent forum from flooding with "low quality" post. Let's start SPCR wiki
SPCR forum is growing lightning fast. If I don't have time to read forum for few days - I have to run through hundreds of post when I get back :D And 50% (or more) posts are same old song (best case, best fan - all over again). So I was thinking - why don't start a SPCR wiki using existing (and futu...

i agree with the above posts. 3D card with good openGL implementation is REALLY helpful not with rendering per se (cpu intensive), but with the 3d modeling (making 3d objects, rotating scene, moving objects). You (your friend) will suffer more from slow/poor 3d modeling than from slow rendering (i.e...

When a tight seal is needed (radiator fan), then a soft mount might actually do more harm than good (loss of pressure/vacuum). I agree, but you can easily work this out. I use duct tape to simply fix the gap between radiator and soft mounted fan. It gives me 1'C difference in temps (with duct tape ...

Re: Socket A system with XP-M and IDE RAID?
I want [...] to use IDE RAID of security reasons. If you are after security DON'T use onboard (mobo) raid, because if your mobo dies you will have to find exactly the same mobo (or at least chipset - but it is 50/50) to gain acess to your hdd's. It could be difficult after few years - only used one...
