Re: Antec Three Hundred Two - front fans obstructed?
are you trying to achieve a positive pressure, push pull or negative pressure setup? to me that case would work best running as a negative pressure setup, using only exhaust fans, and no intake fans. course im a big fan (no pun intended) of not having fans on the front of the case, because any nois...

Re: Antec Three Hundred Two - front fans obstructed?
Yah, it's a shame that they did that. Nice case otherwise. You can always go with a drive bay up top. This one will fit 4 drives in a 3 drive bay (who needs optical nowadays), and has a 120mm fan that is swappable. I use a pair of these in one of my cases, nice and quiet. http://www.amazon.com/King...

Re: This may be the Holy Grail of silence
"extremely hot" would suck no doubt. I just noticed Intel also makes a 1.1GHz Celeron 847 NUC. Would that one run cooler? It certainly is a lot less expensive (and a lot slower).

Re: This may be the Holy Grail of silence
Current i5 are producing to much heat to go within NUC specifications afaik. So atm you're either happy with what an i3 offers or you'd have to look for a different solution. Good to know. I didn't realize there was that much heat difference between i3 and i5. A desktop i3 is actually very powerful...

Re: !
Will it run the i5 though? I'm not even sure the CPU is removable. Though I don't see why it couldn't support i5 if they decided to offer that. I'd probably prefer they go the other direction and put an Atom SoC (such as Z2670) on it. Those are already known to run fanless, so probably already a lo...

Re: This may be the Holy Grail of silence
That is the one I saw. SilverStone is correct. Looks awesome. Stock case has a fan too. But still had heat issues. At least one of the versions did. I would be more interested in the fanless Tranquil PC case over the SilverStone one with the fan. Even though the Silverstone one acts as an external ...

Synology DS212J (NAS)
I'm considering one of these Synology DS212J NAS systems.
Probably cheaper and more compact than building my own NAS box, plus supposedly the Synology software is really good, but not sure how cool/quiet these are.

Re: Streacom FC8 Evo Fanless Mini-ITX Chassis
Regarding the clearance issues with the SATA ports, some boards are better than others for this case I suppose. Also important is the location of the main PSU connector since there needs to be room for the PicoPSU sticking up. I found this ASRock Z77E-ITX board and it appears to be of a configuratio...

Antec Three Hundred Two - front fans obstructed?
I really like the Antec Three Hundred Two, except for the apparent airflow obstruction for the front fans due to the arrangement of the hard drive cage and the fans being mounted directly to it. If I got one of these cases, I'd be tempted to make cuts (as shown in green lines) to remove material. 30...

General question... does anyone predict this convertible form factor and fanless Atom SoC getting into anything larger than an 11.6" device?
I ask for those who don't really like the mini keyboards as typing on them can be error-prone.

Re: List of fanless laptops
I have seen non-free webmail apps that claim to support multiple accounts, such as xandmail, but I don't have any experience with them. I've discovered a (somewhat hidden) feature in the lastest version of the Fastmail.fm webmail. It allows you to be simultaneously logged into multiple Fastmail acc...

Re: Mobile Convergence: W8 Convertibles Samsung 500T, Surfac
These tablets only make sense to me with the Intel Atom SoC based chips which can run fanless. The core i series require fans, so they don't make sense to use in thin tablets. Anyone tried out the ASUS VivoTab? (the regular Windows 8 VivoTab, not the Smart) It appears to be the best of these convert...

cleaning Silverstone fan filter
I'm getting ready to clean the fan filter over the top of the PSU (magnetically mounted) on a Silverstone PS07. Nice thing about this filter is that it is easily removable for cleaning. According to Silverstone Tech Talk , they say the best method is cleaning with water. I would never consider using...

Re: does thermal paste/grease ever "expire"?
As a slightly off-topic aside.... which paste/grease do you guys find is easiest to work with and spread on (including after a few years of sitting in the tube)? I've found that the white Zalman grease was easier to use (even after several years) than the stuff that came with my new Mugen 3. Or mayb...

Re: does thermal paste/grease ever "expire"?
Thanks. I used the old Zalman stuff. The cap on the tube was cracked so I squeezed out some of the initial grease that might have dried out, and then used what was further down in the tube. I hope it's OK. It seemed the same as when new except that it seemed like I needed to use a bit more than I us...

does thermal paste/grease ever "expire"?
I have some old Zalman thermal paste in the original tube and wondering if it is still good to use. Probably going on 7 years old now. This is not for an expensive new system or anything, just a heat sink swap on an old system.

Nice build and install. I like the two hooks for the power brick. Is the power strip attached via its built-in screw mounts? How about the computer? The square black plastic pieces you are using for cable management... was that a long channel that you cut into smaller pieces, or did those come like ...

OK, I am able to access it wirelessly now. I think it was conflicting with my other wireless router, because after I changed the router IP and rebooted the PC it worked. Also Windows no longer says "unidentified".

Thanks mkk & andyb. I managed to pop it back out. Turns out it wasn't necessary to disassemble anything (other than remove the side panel).
